ps4 nfs rivals - nfs network app

i have tried using the nfs network app for overwatch and i never see my friends "online" even tho they are sitting next to me playing rivals online.  i can see everything bout my profile on the app just on the bottom it always says ps4 not connected, even when im playing the game too.  so how can i "connect" the ps4 to the app and actually get to use the overwatch perks with my friends?
