I just went through the main thread to compile a list of steps that you guys are reporting helps with this:

  • So I went to the recently played list. While I was on the “press a” screen and joined someone who was playing Need for Speed and started without issue.
  • My son has Disney Infinity and always keeps the pad plugged in, just tucked away. I unplugged that, did a hard reset and it worked!
  • I had the same issue a hard reset worked
  • Reinstalling worked for me

Elite 2 controller related:

  • I then used an old Xbox one controller I have as a spare and everything works fine. I tried the game and the Xbox one elite 2 controller on my son’s Xbox and once again, nothing worked.He has the original elite controller and that works fine.
  • It doesn’t work on mine, but does on his. The only difference I can see is that he uses an Xbox elite controller, the original one and I have the elite 2
  • So here is how I got my controller(Elite 2) to work. I unplugged the USB that powers my Astros which is connected to my Xbox One. Immediately worked.

    Day 3 without being able to play I tried joining a friends game and nothing still couldn't play so how long Is this going to take to get fix? Ea has to stop making new games and fix all their games they have out. I've had issues with their games before (anthem) which I still have Hopes for that game but really not be able to play a game that's crazy,they could do way better then this

    @EA_Barry @There has to be another way to fix this issue! It’s been 3 days already about to go to 4 days that y’all have not done anything about it! This is ridiculous!!

    Hi guys, I have the same problem one Xbox one X and Xbox one S afte update 28/01/2020
    I have - Standart controllers, Elite, Elite 2 controllers. 
    NFS Heat doesnt work with Elite, Elite 2 and other non standart controllers.

    I fixed the problem next one steps:
    1) Reset the Xbox (only settings, games dont touch).
    2) Set up the console with the STANDRAT controller. (dont set up backup).
    3) DO NOT TOUCH anything in the XBOX settings. If you will change something the game will stop work again.
    4) DO NOT COONNECT another controllets (Elite, Elite 2 and other). If you will connect another gamepad and start game from it the game will stop wotk again.
    5) After that start game from the STANDRAT controller and play.

    This is at least some temporary solution to the problem.
