Re: Need for Speed Pro Street Continue Button stop working

Funny story: Follow these instructions and your Continue button will work perfectly. I'm on my third career without one problem on Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit.

1) Open your Device Manager and highlight the Mice and other pointing devices section.

2) Start NFS Pro Street (it will not start with mouse disabled) and get to the Main Menu.

3) Alt+Tab over to the Device Manager and use your mouse to disable the mice listed under Mice and other pointing devices.

4) As soon as your mouse stops working, immediately Alt+Tab over to Need for Speed and play away. Your continue button will work flawlessly.

5) When you're done playing Alt+Tab back over to the Device Manager and your cursor will still be on the mouse option that disabled it.

6) Hit Enter to bring up the Properties window, hit Tab once to move it to the Enable Device button, then hit the space bar three times. Your mouse is back on.

7) Close the game with your mouse (just out of spite) and remember these few easy steps.

*Unplugging the mouse does not work, sadly.

Evidently there is some problem with the mouse on your desktop stealing focus in Windows 8, I noticed it when I had a mouse cursor in the game on my main screen and saw my desktop mouse cursor moving around on my second monitor at the same time. The two are out of sync somehow and it nerfs the works. This is working for me with Autosave on and off, cracked and  non-cracked .EXE, with and without cheat codes, no Gameboost or whatever it is. I did it with both a Logitech gamepad and a Logitech steering wheel and pedals, it's all a matter of having the pad and buttons assigned the right way. After doing this twice, it takes less than fifteen seconds total to do and I get to play one of my fave racing games without worry.

Oh, as a sidenote, those of you having the login problems who bought the game cheap from Origin and downloaded it, I suggest a disc copy. I paid very little for mine and I don't have to log in to a thing. I can cancel the "Connecting to EA" message as soon as it pops without issue. Enjoy boys and girls!

I have the same problem and the "solution" does not work either. Also to patch the game does not solve the problem or reinstall it. Does anybody know how to solve this problem?

tried that a couple times and failed both times.

  • Hi I know this was a year ago but did someone solve the issue of the continue button?

  • First of all, That is not possible for me cause i use a laptop

Secondly I don't see how a mouse disable can fix it

This solution does not work for Pro Street on WIndows 10.

Get the same issue where occasionally at the end of a race, hitting enter, the associated "accept" button on my G25, or using the mouse will lock up the game.  It just sits there.  WOn't move forward.

I tried this "disabling" the mouse trick, and same thing happened again

    Sad day.

It worked for me after disabling my punkbuster and renaming my "nfs.exe" thanks for the compromised solutions

I'm pretty sure that bug is there so that you don't cheat. I've realized that if you take a practice run every time before a race and also play with auto save off there's a smaller chance for that bug to appear
  • Got the boxed copy of the game, tried with or without crack, tired the renaming, disabling mouse, autosave on and off and nothing... now i've seen this punkbuster "trick", worked for 2 or 3 race days, then the freeze came again.... what the hell is with this game? I even bought a dvd drive after all and tried if the original disc's absence is the problem.. but no.... anyone had figured out what's wrong with the game? I tought that i'll test it in VirtualBox with windows XP.... i'll definitely try that out, will post the result here! cheers....

If you can find out how to get past this bug, please tell me and post the answer here. This is one of my favorite NFS games and I hate that I can't play it due to a stupid bug.

  • I haven't tried it just yet, but I'm wondering if having any other NFS/EA games installed has anything to due with this. I've cleared out my registry and deleted the game and reinstalled, but still same problem. Renaming the exe and turning off the mouse kinda worked for me but it happened again. I thought it was because I had 2 mice plugged in, and so i turned off one and had some success, but then it crashed again. At this point I'm not sure if it's my cpu/gpu overheating or just the game being stupid. I am using a keyboard to play, I'm wondering if using a controller, then disabling your mouse/kb when the game starts will work. I also have a problem where the game doesn't remember my video card settings, and sets me to 800x600 (Im on a gtx650). I've disabled PB and everything, this game just has some major issues I guess. I ran it as administrator as well as it kinda works, but crashes. I'm clueless to what could be the fix for all of this.

Hi, I'm barly sure renaming the nfs.exe file to "whatever you want".exe seems to work.

I've seen on another discussion a very interesting thing :

On a Nvidia/Intel graphics card, nfs.exe is registered as a game to run with specific compatibilty option; once you renamed, drivers are incapable to recognize the exe ==> launching to normal settings.

Let me know if it works 🙂

EDIT : The game remembers setting when it works correctly
