A permanent online connection is required to play the game - you also don't need Xbox Live Gold for that. If you however want to race against others in multiplayer, then you will need the Gold subscription.

Could you let me know which error code you are getting?

For this error I can only find reference to Xbox Live Gold or EA Access subscriptions expiring. Is any of that the case for you?

Additionally, where in-game are you seeing this error message - which game mode are you trying to play? You will not be able to race against other players without a Gold subscription.

I can't really find a lot of information about this error. The only main topic I found is on the Xbox forums:

I would recommend to perhaps reach out to Xbox support as it appears that this error code also happens on non-EA titles.
