Redeeming online passes on Hot Pursuit 2010 for Xbox 360

Is it still possible to redeem an online pass in the Xbox 360 Platinum Hits version of Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2010? The online servers are still up, so it wouldn't make sense if it's not still possible to redeem the code as well.

I'm partly asking this since I just wasted more money than I would have preferred on a sealed copy of the Limited Edition and I kept getting the "Unable to process online pass code, please try again later" error when trying to redeem my code (it wouldn't even let me enter it in, just sent me straight to that error message).

Now, normally I'd assume the same goes for all versions of the game, but I read something somewhere that (while vague) led me to believe that the same might not be true for the Platinum Hits version. So before I waste more money on something that might not do anything, I'd love it if somebody could just clear things up for me.

    Hey @TravelerSeven

Thanks for the additional information, to confirm you do have a Redeem area in-game. However the codes are still redeemed through the Xbox 360 system so the information above would still be the same.

Once you launch the game you should get to a screen asking to activate your online pass (where you can redeem a code, purchase one, skip, etc). That's where you will want to try to redeem the code you have. If it does not accept the code, it could be for one of the following reasons:

    • The code was already redeemed on another account
    • The code is invalid
    • The code has expired

However, if it continues not to accept the code you can try select the "Purchase Online Pass' option and check if you can add it to your account for free. If the option is not available we would be unable to add it to your account.

When it comes to playing off an original copy of NFS Hot Puirsuit or the Platnium Hits CD, it will not make a different in regards to redeeming an online pass.

Lastly, for you question on why servers are shut down, this happens for a variety of reasons. One such, is as titles become older they become harder to support or the platforms they are on become less used and lose support as well.

For the latest EA servers that have been removed, you can check out our Online Service Shutdown page.

    Thanks!

  • I'm not sure you're understanding my problem. I'm trying to redeem the code through the game, since the piece of paper with my online pass code on it suggests that that's where it's supposed to be redeemed. That's where I'm running into problems. I tried redeeming it through the Xbox 360 dashboard, but the code wasn't recognized, which suggests to me that yeah, I'm supposed to redeem it in-game. So this problem is more in your (EA's) ballpark than it is in Microsoft's.

  • @EA_Illium Would really appreciate a further response to this soon (preferably before this July at the very latest). I tried the other methods you listed, but they didn't work because the code for the online pass is pretty clearly supposed to be redeemed inside of the game specifically (at least for the Xbox 360 version), and the game itself is not allowing me to do that. So if you can't answer my initial question (which was if using the Platinum Hits disc would change anything), I'd greatly appreciate it if you could find someone who can.

And as an addendum, if the answer is that using said disc wouldn't change anything, then I would like to know why the servers for registering online passes in-game have been shut down (because if it doesn't work on the Platinums Hits disc, then that's the only other possible answer other than me being unlucky and choosing a day when the servers were down for maintenance or something) when the multiplayer servers are still up. To me, that just seems illogical and unfair.
