What's the point of changing engines?

I don't get what it changes. It seems like a downgrade most of the time. Am I missing something?

The problem is the upgrade system.

Ghost needs to take a playbook page from the old school NFS upgrade system from the early years and stop wasting our time with this swap engine garbage.

@BLVD69 what exactly is broken about it? i'm not sure what exactly the problem is with it, if you could elaborate then that'd be great, as far as i can see its pretty close to what we did have in the earlier games.
