Xbox Live Gold Required for Need for Speed??

We just purchased this game today, and have been unable to play it.  After spending time on the phone with EA support, I was told that this game cannot be played without Xbox Live Gold (which we don't have, and aren't planning to get).  I contacted them a second time to ensure that this was really the case.  Can someone confirm this?  Is this really the policy for this game, or some kind of permissions bug?

The box says that Gold is required to access online features, but nowhere does it say the game cannot be played without gold.  Also, the FAQ on the game's website (http://www.needforspeed.com/en_GB/news/nfs-faq) says that gold would not be needed to play single player content.

.

  • Hi @barber99jlb,

PlayStation Plus and Xbox Live Gold will not be required for single player. If you unable to play single player without a subscription, it is not working as intended. We are currently looking into that.

I have neither Gold or EA Access Subscription. And it won't let me launch the game. Once I click on it, it doesn't load anything. Just cancels the launch and shows the error code.
  • This also applies to NFS Rivals but youll have to change the online setting to Single player while in the game.

I know this is massively later... but my Need for Speed tells me (after buying it and downloading it) that I need an EA Account to play the game at all. I have set up and EA account and it won't link to my Xbox account because I don't have Xbox Gold... therefore YES you do NEED Xbox Live Gold to play Need For Speed

    Hi DinosaurShadow,

That may not be entirely correct. I think you still need to link your Xbox Live account to your EA account even if it is not an Xbox Live Gold account. When I was creating an EA account for NFS Payback I did need to be online and signed into my Xbox Live account. Creating the account through my Xbox One automatically linked it. I can't remember if I also had to do an e-mail confirmation. I think I did, but once that is done you should be all set.

The reason you need to be logged into your Xbox Live account and have it linked to your EA account is that the game requires a constant online connection. (That is, if you are talking about NFS 2015.) but you shouldn't need Gold.

Also, NFS Payback is playable offline without an account, but it seems that now that I have linked my Xbox Live account to my EA account that my save file now requires me to log into my Xbox Live account. However, if I start a new game offline and not signed into an account, then I do not need to log in.

If you still have difficulty I would recommend attempting to log into the game using your Xbox Live account and if it asks you to create an EA account, see if there is an option in the game when you start it up to log into your EA account. If there isn't, but there is a screen to create a new EA account, I would try that.
