Races are based on performance rank of your car. So if you join a B-playlist, you will have to drive a car between the ranks of 100 - 159. If you only have one car in that range, it is going to be auto selected for you, might be a rental car if you don't have one.
You will revert back to your 'primary' car once the playlist is over. Or in other words, you will need a drift car for each performance class and a race car, if you are into rumbles, you might get away with the drift or race car or need a third choice. So in total, you have 3 types of cars and 5 classes = 15 cars as minimum if you want to be prepared for all cases.

Same, I stopped playing after it kept force changing my car to Fairlady which is impossible to win the drift contests. it's frustrating because I thought this seemed like a good game, still looking for that new NFSU2
