Cops
Personally, I am liking the game. My biggest gripes are difficulty and cops. This game on relaxed doesn't seem relaxed. I've had a crazy time trying to win races. One of the big issues are the police...
This has already been mentioned in this forum, but it cannot be stressed enough how much the game experience is ruined by too frequent cop chases and redundant chopper patrols.
The fun in this game comes from the races, missions, car upgrades etc, but it's all too often interrupted by cop patrols which especially on higher heat levels are sometimes impossible to avoid.
I've read many comments where players where quitting the game in the middle of a cop chase, because they where tired of starting yet another cop chase after having just finished two or three others when all they were trying to do is get to a mission.
I think there are several improvements that could be done in this regard:
Let's make NFS fun again!
@Rebel_Red_RabbitI wouldnt say remove them. Helicopters eyes are a primary weapon for police in chases. However it should be easier to get away from them as police helicopters are not designed to be fast. Plus fuel limits there air time.
I remember a decade or so ago here in the UK. There was a chase down the motorway with the bad guy hitting speeds off 180mph. And he surely did outrun the helicopters. However Police believe it or not are not stupid. And basically setup up a relay off helicopters as he beat one another was laying in wait. The guy had some serious skills but did eventually crash
But there should be a big reduction in police cars and the like. No police force would commit so many to chasing a street racer. Infact police often abandon pursuit if it gets to dangerous and risks injuring innocents passers buy
But then this is just a game and full arcade
I feel like there needs to be some heat degradation, where going out and just driving around for a time will eventually reduce your heat.
It's not too much of a bad thing, as it still gives you risk and reward. You can choose to waste some time to reduce your heat, or go all in and take the punishment.
Why the hate for choppers?
They can easily be avoided by standing still and turning off engine, they won't be able to see you, unless they were following you already. If they are following you, drive under a bridge, tunnel, warehouse, or whatever and they will lose you as well. If that doesn't work either just drive for 2 minutes or so and they need to refuel. So plenty of options to deal with them.
Car patrols can be easily avoided as well, especially by taking less obvious routes (they dont go into offroad unless following you for example) Their spotting range will be decreased if you stop and turn off engine as well. That said: the best approach for a patrol or undercover car that spots you is a head-on nitrous burst, takes them out instantly. No cop, no chase. 🙂
Heat 5 is pretty much doable, even on Challenging or hire. Just not with any car/setup.
Last, but not least: if you don't want heat to rise, pay attention to the events you pick, as each will rise heat differently. But don't expect to get the biggest payouts with zero/no risk.
I am happy that more and more people are calling out this bulls*it and hopefully this is enough for Criterion to fix the cop density.
There is no reason to have them all over the map equally and on every corner. I would rather take instant chase like in the older games rather than a meter than does not help because 2 seconds later, another cop appears and starts a chase.
Choppers should not be removed but reduced. Two at the time, even on "Relaxed" difficulty is too much. And that easiest setting is not even easy. Sure, less damage but the AI racers and constant cop trouble suck.
Yeah, it's pretty ridiculous. Yesterday I booted the game again to give it another try, and of course a cop chase started within seconds.
I escaped, hid and waited for some clearance to reach a mission, but I couldn't move because there were two choppers and three police cars roaming around and the entire mini-map was basically red.
I waited for a few minutes with my engine off until some cop notice me anyway and triggered another chase. That just kills all the fun. I'll wait until this is fixed.
Totally agree and think the cops and helicopters are too OP and should be nerved.
Yesterday was hiding inside the parking lot at the top of the map for half an hour with 2 helicopters flying/hovering overhead that just didn't want to leave and no way they could see me all this while not being in an active chase by cops and already evaded them.
Later got a chance to get away and moved to another place and was hiding not even 3 minutes later the helicopter was directly flying to me and started hovering above me.
And again no chance the helicopter could have spotted me.
Either helicopters need to be fixed or nerved or something and should leave after a few minutes to refuel etc. and agree heat level should decrease at some point or like in underground when changing colour or mods of car or something to that extent.
Should add Heat had the best idea with the cops you race through the day and at night you battle it out with the cops and when returning to the garage your heat level decreased.
It would be great to receive some official statement on this topic to know if any cops tuning is coming or if I should just uninstall the game and forget about it.
I just read all your replies and I am glad to find different opinions and very valuable points of view from you all. It is reasonable that some of you don't see the "cops topic" so irritating or hard to manage.
Personally I have played NFS games a lot, since many years ago. I am not a pro player, just an average player, and in my opinion current version of the game is ruined by "cops topic" so I haven't played for some days because I don't get fun.
Nice to hear it is not a problem for some of you, but I guess you can also understand that we the "average players" were really happy and excited, bought and installed the game, run it for the first time... and now we are not so happy and excited 😠
In the meantime, I am playing and getting lots of fun from another racing game, which name obviously I should not mention here... Huge amount of contents, nice gameplay, frequent updates, and so on. Another class, same price 👿
@Rebel_Red_Rabbit: Absolutely! Imho, main cops tuning should be related to:
- Amount in general: there is an absurd amount of them. My expectation was enjoying a new NFS game, based on cool arcade racing gameplay with an important component of cop pursuits, as in other previous NFS games. Currently NFS Unbound gameplay is based on cop pursuits with some arcade racing.
- Amount depending on areas: there should be some areas where amount of cops was significantly lower than average; not totally safe areas, but at least zones you could expect less risky; I mean common urban areas in the city, not woods or highways.
- Decreasing heat: heat never decreases: it is reset to zero after night, and that's a different topic; in some situations the player should receive some compensation in terms of a decrease in heat, as by evading cops in a certain time limit or so. Crazy idea: some events/missions/achievements which prize is a decrease on heat instead of money?
- Scalation according to game difficulty: Money you earn is significantly lower playing on lowest difficulty, but honestly I didn't notice any difference on cops. Same amount of them, similar aggressivity, heat increasing with same speed. That's really frustating and, let me say, unfair because you can assume earning less money on easy difficulty, but if required effort related to cops is the same, something is wrong.
Maybe I am missing something or I need more practicing, but imho there is another topic, not related to cops, that should be reviwed.
If you tune a car for drifting, you can go out the garage to play the drifting events, using the right car with the right tuning. That's fine, but once you are outside you cannot swap car and you can only modify a few handling points, so earning money from the rest of not drifting events is in most cases very difficult or just impossible. Therefore your only option is forgeting those events and going back to the garage.
It would be nice if the game could include some way of managing that situation in order to give the player more chances to play more events.
