Right but this is a bit unrealistic. If there is 1 or maybe 2 drift events for the day/night, why would anyone want to waste the rest of the races 2-3 possible good races which will net you more money? There needs to be an option to switch cars for the day/night without ending that particular day. Like in heat, we could go back during the day and switch cars to do the drift races, before changing into night.
You see what I'm saying right? It makes building a drift car useless, because you are never going to be able to finish the rest of the events, after the drift event. The whole day / night will be wasted. The game already locks you out of the events based on tier, now it's also locking you out based on even type, because you can't switch vehicles, or even modify the grip on your current car while on the street. This needs to be fixed.
You can swap cars. Go to any meetup and change your ride there (can also change handling there). Not your safehouses for obvious reasons.
As for changing handling you can also change that on the fly, buy entering the exit game screen (might be pause screen assuming you are playing the story) while roaming open world. I think the options are Resume, HANDLING, Leave Game.
If you have a decent diff installed, you can change the grip/drift setting quite a bit.
Doing this I was able to have a single car do both B and A class races, by changing the diff, and downforce settings.
