Lockdown - This needs to change!

Dear Criterion,

Volume 9 of NFS Unbound is pretty good, and the Lockdown mode in general is a good idea. However, there are A LOT of things that disrupt gameplay completely, and those things need to be fixed on the double.

  1. First up, and that's the MIT (Most Important Thing) in a sense, I witnessed a lot of players triggering a truck without extracting just to prevent the players that desperately need to get away from extracting. To prevent this, the crew that triggers the truck absolutely MUST extract before the truck disappears, otherwise all remaining crew members that didn't extract will be immediately busted and lose their progression.
  2. The Lockdown zone is ticking too quickly. Imagine you're in an A+ car like Kaze's Mercedes, chased by Heat 5 cops, and you're almost demolished, desperately seeking to get out of the zone because you recently repaired and you're on cooldown. Having the zone tick less (gap between taking zone damage is bigger) helps mitigate this and also helps surviving in the zone with a car.
  3. There needs to be a Solo option. Having five crews of three on a small map like this can be extremely stressful. Having a Solo option in which five independent players go up against each other is a good way to make Lockdown less stressful.
  4. The match needs to take longer. 30 minutes is just too short, and the zone expands rapidly. A minimum of 45 minutes would also help with making Lockdown less stressful, and it gives more time to find impounds and extract with the truck.
  5. And speaking of impounds, the impounds that are inaccessible should marked with a red impound symbol when you're within radar range. Driving around aimlessly with 100k in the books is not cool, especially when you look for a specific car which could be in one of those hidden impounds.

If all these points are considered and added in a future update, then Lockdown could turn out to be a fun mode to play.

Let's hope for the best.

- Nico

  • I feel your pain. Pick your car first from the lockdown menu then start game. Sucks by its a work around.

    1. MIT

Nah the MIT is that there are PC players that teleport into lockups and around the map before anyone can even get a chance to get the money to unlock stuff.

    2. That's part of the "thrill".

    3. Part of the Thrill.

    4. Part of the Thrill, the count down is there for a reason.

    5. More complaining, just use the maps off reddit if you're incapable of finding them. The spawn points are finite.

Just fix the hacker issue, imo. I'm on PS5 despite owning it on PC as well; and I've unlocked basically everything in the entire game, all that's left is some PVP Achievements because nobody plays PVP. I only ever played with 1 friend, and that was infrequent due to conflicting work schedules.

Lockdown was EASY. The final car unlock in Hot Pursuit is HARD. Look at what's required.

I don't want to play GTA since I don't like Gunplay, and I like car combat
NFS has been in many points in the franchise a car combat series in entries like Rivals, Hot Pursuit, Among others

is it the whole mantra of the series? obviously not, but even before NFS has been regarded as a difficult Arcade Racer and this is throwing a bone to that aspect of the series.

Let people enjoy more action packed stuff as long as it isn't the main mode, which still exists as normal races and PVP are still a thing and this mode doesn't take anything away from that.
If you're not a fan of difficult modes and high stakes and you don't even care for the "Useless Cars" then don't play the mode, fair and simple, not everything needs to cather to you.

If you really just want to drive and that's it, look for other racing games that more driving focused

  • what need to change is you , if you want some high stake heist go play a game with high stake heists , this is need for speed , not no need to race and just drive around to collect pretty pixel pictures for useless cars from two decades ago, that entire mode is a waste of space on my PC for bums who should go back to that idiotic GTA

  • If there's genuily one thing that need to change is the order to get to the lockdown world.

    Right now we have:
    Lockdown
     -Find Game *press button*
-Waiting for public teamates to join
     -Starting Session
-Get a FRUSTRATINGLY LONG LOAD SCREEN
-You get to the car selection screen... WITH 00:00 SECONDS LEFT to pick a car
-You couldn't pick a car and end up with some garbage you wouldn't have picked while you're S+

(What is above has happen COUNTLESS times which make me want to close the game but oh wait I CAN'T else i loose my streak, i have multiple bikes which i don't get to use because of this crap)

    What we need to have:
    Lockdown
     -Find Game *press button*
(order from here can shuffle from what EA would prefer)
-Waiting for public teamates to join
-Give us actual, consistent 30 seconds to pick a car
(Or mix the waiting for players & Pick car that way while we wait for teamate we can already work on picking a car)
(order from here stay the same)
     -Session Starting
-Still get frustratingly long load screen but at least i have my car
-Session wait for everyone to load in to world to begin.

  • You Guys are aware this is supposed to be a PvPvE mode right?

And exactly as the name suggests, it is Player vs. Player, meaning, other teams are going to be there trying to sabotage you as well, and you should do the same, it is a fundamental part of the gameplay loop.
The strategy you mention is widely known I even think between the devs too, it is a genius idea, Claim a truck before another one can do so so they can't escape with the Hot Ride and therefore the fight can be more challenging and the stakes would be higher, it's smart and also carries the risk that later on lowers your chances to be able to reach the truck and escape as there will be more people around, it's a gamble.

When it comes to the lockdown zone Damage, I've been on low health during it but I've never been to critical or even wrecked between waiting for the Gas Station Refill at all, if anything, it's overly generous with even B class cars being able to survive easily, add to the fact that you can repair yourself free of charge by swaping to a random Jackspot and then swapping your car back on the spot, try it.

The whole solo Session thing still happens pretty often if you set your crew to Private, and even if it isn't as populated, it will be very low players when Solo Party is being done so there shouldn't be that many issues to try and get stuff (I personally find it annoying, as this is the only mode I don't feel bad about getting into Car Combat in, better here than in PvP Races)

I really don't need this mode to last any longer, it already becomes too adicting for me to do more than one Lockdown and it lasting over 30 Minutes is already a huge time waster for me lmaooo

And those specific "secret" Impounds are supposed to be that... secrets, if everyone saw them in the map they would defend them to no end if the car was actually worth it, and it also takes away from the reward of exploration if there are no "secrets" to uncover...

Overall I see that a lot of your enfasis for your criticism here is to make the mode less "Stressful", which, while I understand that it is fair to just want to unwind and not feel pressured when playing games.... this mode was made to be challenging and nerveracking by taking inspiration from one of the most difficult games in the series, and many enjoy it for the reason of it being a challenge.

The only thing I would love the team to implement would be to have a better communication method for those who don't want to play with Voice Chat, the struggle is real when playing with randoms, finding something that's worth it or ask for help with the limited options of the chat Wheel and there not being useful presets for it when playing Lockdown on it's own

Aside from that, tweaks to fix issues when people's inventories get corrupted mid-game, a few fine tunings to the mid end challenges and a way to give Racer X Challenges more urgency would be my actual criticisms for the mode, it is pretty fun but it can also be hella frustrating, and that's the charm of it.

  • exactly my opinion.
What I think is most important is that the lockdown mode has an option so that you can play alone (single player without other players), because now it's the case that the other crew occupy the entire halls and if they have a motorbike, they don't loot the other ones There is more chance of getting a blacklisted vehicle.
As soon as they see you they destroy you in the most brutal way and you lose interest in playing and you become frustrated.
Sometimes the opposing crews have motorcycles right at the beginning, no matter which class you start in, when you are only in the B class again because, as described above, you will be brutally demolished or you won't get the truck because another player is claiming it he doesn't need or want it at all.
That's really unfair and no fun.

Therefore, the lockdown mode urgently needs a single player mode
