Thoughts and Feedback on the Developer Q&A
I wanted to shine light on some of my thoughts on the Developer Q&A that happened in February 23rd in a more constructive way to see where things can improve and in what areas the people at Criterion may look into polishing for the next time a Q&A happens.
First, I want to thank the team for this new, open to feedback approach they're taking in order to improve, we appreciate the effort of partaking in a Q&A involving the community, however, It's not too farfetched to state that I'm not the only one to feel at least a bit underwhelmed by the questions asked and some of the responses given at times, so here's what I'd suggest that could be taken into account for succeeding Q&As:
Take your time to curate your questions
While some questions might be very popular within the community, it is possible that many have been asked already, or may not be possible to answer for you, and sometimes, some important and thoughtful questions may be lying under the most upvoted questions. Knowing what kind of questions can be answered may help prepare a more organized program, at times also give other questions for your players to answer in order to gather opinions on certain topics and outright state which questions may be ignored. (e.g. What kind of cars would you like to see more of? Sports, Sedans, SUVs? Manufacturer specific may be ignored).
Work together with members of the Reddit Admins and Moderators to decide which questions might be of the most interest for the community as a whole.
Prepare your answers with time
We understand that in some cases, answers might be hard to give due to certain restrictions. Collecting your thoughts in the moment is a good idea for honesty, however this can sometimes lead to answers ending up being rather repetitive and at times drag on for an extended amount of time.
Preparing your answers with time can help on making more concise and meaningful answers as well as optimizing time in order to get more questions answered efficiently.
Be more transparent whenever possible
Right now as a community there's certain levels of skepticism as the communication hasn't taken off until recently, which leads to distrust on some capacity to take statements akin to teases with the aforementioned skepticism, if there's something for us to look forward to, make it clear if possible in order to get excited, and likewise if there's something that may not be possible to be done in Unbound by the team, let us know firmly, yet also consider such topics for the future of the franchise.
I commend the transparency during the Q&A regarding "lobby size" and "single-player additions" topics, hopefully more can be shown overtime and with a more positive outcome.
Acknowledge issues and feedback that are being looked into
Give a sense of hope into the community by stating in what ways you're looking to improve the game whenever possible, I again commend the transparency during the "car balancing" topic. If there's something that requires further feedback, bring it up in the conversation. Giving us something to look forward to can help increase excitement for the series, and with that said...
Maybe throw in a few surprises at the end
This one would be an added extra more than anything, if something can be discussed or shown from future volumes, it will give people things to look forward to, whether it is a small visual or a hint at what's to come, at least one clue to what the next volume may include in terms of Cars or cosmetics would be an added bonus to generate excitement for future volume releases.
At some point I'd like to give more feedback on some questions brought on during the Q&A, such as UGCs, but for now these are my thoughts on how the format itself could improve in the future.
I'm grateful you guys have taken this approach, and while it might have not met all of my expectations, I'm still excited to hear more about the future of the franchise, and for this game as a whole
Thank you NFS Team!
