Black screen / UI issues

Product: Need for Speed: Unbound
Platform:PC
Summarize your bug There's no UI in the game. After the EA / Criterion opening credits, the game goes black screen and then there's no visual anymore. I can keep hearing the music and by pressing the esc button, I'm able to hear the menu sound effects. I even uploaded a quick video to show it: https://streamable.com/vwgva1
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? I'm not sure...
What happens when the bug occurs? I can't play the game at all.
What do you expect to see? The game.

When I start the game (Palace Edition), there's no UI loaded in the game.

The game loads into a rain loading screen, then i press Enter and it goes to the EA / Criterion opening credits. Sadly then, the game goes full black screen, I can hear the music and the menu sound effects by pressing ESC. If I press the left or right arrow in my keyboard, somehow there's a quick green flash.

I'm currently using Windows 11 and the EA App.

Turns out my hunch is correct for the wrong reason. You do not need to downgrade to W10. you do however want to manually update your graphics card driver from the Nvidia site. For whatever reason my version of Geforce Experience couldn't find the current November drives while stating that my June drives are up to date, so I suggest updating them both manually.

Link to manually update Nvidia GPU: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/drivers/

For those who experienced the same issue but have a AMD GPU: https://www.amd.com/en/support

For those who experienced the same issue but have a Intel GPU (Which I don't think it should be happening, given how recent their GPUs are): https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download-center/home.html

Quick clarification: If your graphics card driver is months old and the updater still say its up to date, chances are, its not up to date and you will have to update both the drivers and the updater manually. (unless you have a end of life, discontinued card, which in this case your pc doesn't meet minimum specs to run NFS: Unbound)

As a quick test, if you toggle the black screen to windowed by pressing Alt & Enter does the game render in the window or stay as the black screen?
  • @y0nt3n I have the same issue and I am going on a hunch that our GTX 10's series graphics card (I have a 1070) is a part of our problem, right now I'm trying on a rental pc that is similarly spec as yours (with a 1080 Ti)
  • hunch was wrong, it is most likely a windows 11 issue, I will downgrade to try this out

I am wrong, you do not need to downgrade windows 11 to windows 10

  • have the same issuse once i start the game all i get is a windowed black screen. i updated drivers, verify game files and i even uninstalled the game and still not fixed
