crash to desktop in race - lost $12k buy-in

The game just stole $12k from me. The game crashed to desktop a few seconds after starting a race (race with 1990 mustang prize) with a buy-in started and when I got back in, my money was gone. I tested this before, exiting the game mid race just as a test with a lower buy-in so I kind of expected the outcome, but this makes me not want to play the game again. $12k is a LOT to lose to a crash  two days before I need $20k for a buy-in. 

I expect this is done to keep people from using alt-F4 to game the retry system, but wouldn't it be better to just take away a retry?
