Edit Player and Edit Strategies Suggestion (so everyone is happy)

Let me start off by saying that I was extremely disappointed as a long time fan of this series to find that you (the developers) have decided to remove the option to edit

your strategies in Franchise Mode.  This sole decision alone made me not want to purchase this year's entry into the series and I have been a loyal customer since NHL 95.
The removal of the ability to edit players in Franchise mode almost lost me after NHL 20 but taking away the ability to edit your gameplay strategies so I can play and enjoy

the game the way I want to was the final straw.  There are a lot of fans of this series who feel the same as I do.  However I have a simple fix that could be implemented via a Patch

or maybe include it into NHL 24 so you can bring back those fans you lost this year.  First I will start off by arguing why having these options available is not "unrealistic" in any way shape

or form and that editing a player's position/play type as well as being able to adjust your strategies (if the coaches strategies aren't getting the job done) is essential to the overall gameplay

experience within Franchise Mode.

Edit Players:

Now I want to first start off by saying I completely understand why you removed this option however my understanding only goes as far as the actual NHL players within the game.
To those of us who have gone deep into Franchise modes over the chorus of the last little while, not having the ability to edit CPU generated players that have been drafted is

completely unrealistic.  How?  Let me explain.

I can't even count how many times I've drafted a Center Sniper who is absolutely terrible at the faceoffs and pots 20 goals a year yet completely shines on the wing and develops

into a prominent playmaker.  Not having the ability to edit his position to LW/RW and change him to a playmaker completely hinders his growth.  Now think about that from a real life

perspective.  Would any GM/Coach in their right mind look at a player like that and say:  "Well I drafted you because you're a goal scorer but you've developed into an absolutely

extraordinary playmaker BUT I don't feel you fit this team.  I needed a goal scorer.  You're being traded/cut from the team".  Of course not.  That would be asinine.  Imagine the Edmonton

Oilers trading Connor McDavid because he turned out to be a better goal scorer than a playmaker.  It's crazy.  Jason Zucker is an example of a player who was drafted for

one position but shined on another.  He was drafted as a Center but shined on the wing.  I could go deeper and bring up players like Dustin Byfuglien and Brent Burns as well.  Players who were drafted as Forwards yet shined as defensemen.  Or how about Sergei Fedorov?  One of the best offensive and defensive forwards to play the game that would end up

playing defense in the latter half of his career because of his exceptional defensive abilities.  There is a plethora of examples that I could use to argue with.  As for appearances we should be able to edit AT LEAST their hairstyles and beard styles as well as the color of their hair.  How many 18 year olds have been drafted into the NHL with grey hair?  None (as far as I know).  This happens ALL OF THE TIME in Franchise Mode.  It's absurd and completely unrealistic.

Edit Strategies:

Being able to edit your strategies has been an essential part of Franchise mode for years.  Why it was removed has me completely flabbergasted and is not realistic at all.  It hinders

the players freedom to play the game how they want.  I understand that the GM doesn't decide what strategies are implemented but the GM also doesn't decide how much a Sidney

Crosby Jersey is going to be worth either.  Using "realism" as an excuse to remove that is unacceptable when GM's don't decide the cost of parking spot tickets either.  In terms of gameplay,

the coach doesn't change his/her strategies in game if the team is on a 10 game losing streak.  The strategies stay the same.  Is that realistic?  Of course not.  Coaches constantly adjust

their strategies when a team is in a funk.  Not having the ability to change that (especially when it comes to the Franchise players who SIM and not play the games) is ridiculous.  Firing and

hiring 10 different coaches a season and trading half of your roster away is also unrealistic.  No team would do that.  Nathan Mackinnon doesn't fit your coaches strategy?  Better trade him away.  As for playing the games, I personally prefer my d-men to hold the line at all times for a passing option.  Now I could just hire a coach that fits what I like but the issue with that is the

lack of coaches available to hire.  Forcing players to play the way the game tells them to play is not fun and it completely ruins the experience.

Now after all of this I will suggest a simple fix so that everyone is happy.  Add the option to turn it on and off.  It's simple.  You can turn GM options on and off so why not edit players/edit strategies?  I'm not a game developer so I'm unsure if this can be fixed with a simple patch but it definitely can be added into NHL 24 next October.

I know the chances of this post being read by a developer or any of the forum moderators is highly unlikely but if you do happen to read it, please consider what I have suggested.  It's a simple solution that keeps the fans who want the most realistic game possible happy as well as the ones like myself who want to be able do whatever they please within Franchise Mode.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

  • @invain053 There is a coach available that will play your strategy, but he thinks your market size is too big and he likes rebuilder teams so you cannot pay him enough to take the job.

But don't forget about the existence of hair dye - I'm actually kind of shocked we didn't get the chance to create a Dennis Rodman type player who dyes their hair neon colors, perhaps even changing from game to game.
