Hitting is out of control.

The hitting in every game mode is totally absurd. There are gigantic open ice hits every few seconds in this game and it's starting to feel like NHL Hitz. This is fine for 3s eliminators where it makes sense with the arcade style gameplay, but in a "serious" club match we have 6'9 monsters able to hit everything with ease. Do the programmers and game designers ever watch hockey? There's maybe one big open ice hit every 2-4 games. Entire playoff series have less of these hits than happen in 30 seconds of EA gameplay.

We all know defense is broken this year. There are countless posts about how badly poking and stick lifts were nerfed so I can't really blame defensemen for relying on these hits. There are no other defensive tools left to them. But it has ruined the entire feel of the game for me.

  • Can you provide a real-world example of a team completely made up of 6'9" monsters that only lay big hits 3-4 times per game?

I played a game last night and the other team had 59 hits. We avoided some of them and got some goals but

    1. Bad players are getting rewarded and not getting enough 5 minute majors. There’s too many times where I am protecting the puck by facing the boards and then the player gets boarded and then the other team gets the puck. Why should I get punished for angling my player correctly? You have to “time” your hits in real life and offensive players can use this to their advantage irl because they know the other team has to actually play hockey.

    2. I pass the puck and start taking a few strides and then someone from 50 feet away comes barreling at me seconds are I pass or shoot.. In real hockey yes you can finish your check but not way after the play is over.. furthermore ea is not calling charging from 50 ft away but calling it when you’re 5 feet away.. so basically the people who are finishing their check normally are getting punished but the people going around and just going for giant bone breaking 50 foot charges are barely getting called

    3. Stop rewarding bad hitters when they do NOT have body position. If I am a half a stride past you or your don’t line up your hit perfect then you should be taken out of the play as a hitter and lose energy..

    4. Why aren’t people hitting all game losing endurance/energy/stamina more? Why does it take 5 - 7 seconds to get up after being hit illegally?

    5. I understand skating into someone and being hit.. but giant hitting after the play and off play is ruining the game. It’s a strategy for teams to exploit the game not calling penalties and taking it players out of the play..

for example I pass the puck and start skating up ice.. I take a few strides way after the pass is done.. then mister “I don’t know how to play hockey” destroys me and now I can’t get up for 2 years.. so They should’ve gotten an interference penalty and a 5 minute major and a fight possibly.. instead the other team eventually gets it back and get a chance and I’m out of the play..

back in older games teams would get punished for going around like a maniac hitting but now sadly it’s rewarded.. so much for a realistic game

  • @Homie45677654 Playing defense is hard enough.. but now you have forwards boarding, charging, interfering, getting huge hits not being lined up properly etc..

So now as a defenseman you pass the puck and start going up to the blue line a couple seconds after the forward charges at you and now you can’t get up for 6 seconds.. now as a d man you’re completely taken out of the play

Most of you are just made bad plays and hold on to the puck too long. We all end up doing it at times.  And when you claim to be facing away along the boards it means you turned last second and /or the player has enough speed they run into you without pressing the right stick.  But please post videos of these actions.

And learn RPG elements where attributes matter, speed matters/momentum matter.

I don't care if someone chooses to be some mongoloid hitter; they're in their right to do so, but what absolutely chaps my behind is the fact most of em are allowed to destroy people late without any repercussions. I'm not entirely sure whether to blame EA Sports or Truculence itself.

Like, the end of round stat screen from one of my last games shows a team got 30 hits on us but a good 10 of those should have been penalties and another 5 at least were borderline. Couple that with the fact goalies are somehow even worse this year, they are a force to be reckoned with - While it is a slow and kind of boring process, I totally understand why teams do it. Laughable that EA keeps bringing up meta builds/styles being a bad thing, yet they're the ones forcing it on us.

@TTZ_Dipsy Penalties for charging probably toned down and then figure in discipline it probably lets for a later hit. When I'm not a center I put all my stuff into it for my PWF who has 90 checking and strength. For the most part I've learned how late I can hit.

We sure as hell know that stick lift is super sensitive this season. But they aren't gonna make any changes this year so can only hope for a different checking experience next year but I wouldn't hold onto that hope.
