I also think if they implemented a system for OTP like you pick a position in World Of Chel it could work. We had this discussion back on NHL 14 with a bunch of the OTP population. Many have disbanded from this series. I haven;t played much drop-in because it's boring playing in an outdoor arena with the same 2 sweaters... Clubs aren't always an option and LG is a popularity contest and with the time frame for us older members it doesn't work since we have jobs to go to.
The trolling in drop-in now is 10x worse than it was before. Often my defensive partner decides to play forward instead. So the position lock makes no difference. Lobbies we were able to avoid them. Now drop-in the population is too small even with cross-play we can hardly avoid them since lobbies never fill up like they used to..
Not everyone has a club or has time for it. We need options! Sadly this could be the last game I purchase... Having more fun in BAP on NHL 20 right now anyways.
@BIGRlTCHY Why don’t you play BAP in NHL23 ? Just curious…. NHL23 OFFLINE with the right settings is great 😀
The answer to this question is I don't enjoy dealing with the cutscenes. Along I liked back before NHL 21 I was able to start off as a 17 year old junior player to grind my way into a draft position. Along they had an injury tracker and you could play in the AHL. It was way more enjoyable.in the sense of content.

@BIGRlTCHY If you really love Simulation Hockey and enjoy a good BAP, like is what I’m sensing from you, just take a look at my slider thread on Operation Sports…
Best way to play this game is with Player Lock 🔒 You get all the benefits of playing "your player" and you can create him on the team of your choice. No cutscenes, no BS that are far too unrealistic like in BAP… Try it and you’ll never look back… And on top of it all, your AI teammates are way better this way 😀
I even have a roster that puts the AI D's to the next level… They are way too static without and don’t shoot the puck enough…
Despite this you can 't play a full junior career in the WHL...along other aspects. That is why I play BAP on NHL 20.

You can create and play Player Lock in any League you want, including WHL…
I don’t wanna sound pushy, you can do whatever you want, lol !
But NHL23 with tweaks, is by far superior to 20 IMO…

- @TheUnusedCrayon A part of me wishes they would go back to the gameplay engine of 20 and restart from there. 21, 22 and now 23 have all become progressively worse

Something with the X Factor that screwed the game IMO. But like I said, I have found lots of fixes, tweaks, and settings that makes this game truly shine…. I have now more than 200 hours + in gameplay and roster testing alone to tell you that 23 is above and beyond my expectations,,,, And I’m a hockey freak 😀
I know, I’m not known around here, was just checking in here to see where the game was at… Sad to see that 95% + are unhappy with the game in general, cause I’m having the best time of my life playing a hockey game right now 😀
- @PernellKarl027 I gave your sliders a go and I see why you have fun with them but there's still tweaks I'd like to make that ultimately can't be tweaked to create a better sim experience for me. I like having the option of having great goal variety where any shot has a chance to beat the goaltender and in this year you just can't seem to do it in a realistic manner.
It's close but just no cigar for me. I'll probably give er a go but I spent 2 hours last night tweaking your sliders to something I deem a bit more sim and it ultimately just ended up being a bit off still due to the goalies. Your slider set is very interesting though and I see why it works for 23 and that you'd enjoy it.

Have you downloaded the Roster for the Active DMen also ? You have to give everything a little more time though, because I have seen lots of goal variety…. Slapshots from the point that go in, deflections, rebounds, wristers in the high slot, I’ve seen them all, lol !
What you could do for the goalies, would be to lower the save reaction time a bit more and the screen and deflections effect (higher in those cases)… Also make sure that you are on Tuner 1.00 😀
In my last 25 games, I was at a 6.18 GPGA when last season in the NHL it was at 6.28, so I am very happy with the results 😀
- @PernellKarl027 Yeah I lowered them all down to zero for the goalies and increased the aggression to make the game more grindy and so you're forced to kind of take the shots you're given or have taken the time to set up and ultimately the goalies were still stopping shots with increased shot power and accuracy from the high slot. I like the fact you have your shot accuracy down low cuz I like messy shooting as it is more true to life but I hate that shots tend to have to be absolute snipes to go in. I prefer shots that can kind of sneak under arms and sneak around screens to go in from time to time and even with zero save reaction time, 100 for screen efficiency and zero cross crease reaction time that the goalies are still making phenomenal saves way too often. Good rush chances don't feel as fruitful as I'd like and that's ultimately up to the sliders not working to their fullest potential.
In NHL 20 the extremes were extreme on the sliders and this game just feels like they tweak things for a lot of the categories such as goaltending.
I do like how this year aggression really helps the ai poke more often though. @TheUnusedCrayon I will try one game with Save Reaction at 0 and screen and deflections at 100, and I will comeback and post the results…
But, like I said, the 6.18 GPGA is a very good gauge for me and the fact that I see lots of different types of goals…
I know I’ve asked the question, but not sure you did, are you on version 1.00 ? Because the latest Tuner turned the goalies into Brick Walls 😳 And trust me I’ve done tons of experiments and changing goalies sliders did nothing, lol !
And I can see that you seem experimented with the sliders, but as you may know some work as intended and some don’t… I know my set by heart, and sometimes just changing one to the extreme, can put the game out of whack in a hurry 😉
@TheUnusedCrayon For what it’s worth, it was only one game, but here's what I’ve changed on my sliders. All the other values I’ve left AS IS.
Goalie Cross Crease Reaction Time 2
Goalie Save Reaction Time 2
Goalie Deflection Reaction Time 2
Goalie Screen Effect 98
Goalie Screen Persistence 98
Me playing LW lock on the Sabres:
Sabres 9 (30 SOG 1/3 PP)
Bruins 7 (35 SOG 0/3 PP)
So that was 16 goals when I’m usually averaging 6… The goalie had holes and were giving up rebounds left and right, lol ! Every type of goals went in. Between the legs, under the arm, a couple of deflections…
Like I said only one game but…
@PernellKarl027yeah definitely on 1.00 and also something to keep note is I was trying the game on shorter periods (averaging 3-4 goals total per game 4 minute periods while just tinkering).
The big difference is having the aggression set to around 80. If you have it down in the 60's you're gonna get a lot more time and space to move around and get open looks so you're gonna score more.edit: also on superstar difficulty

@TheUnusedCrayon I find that if you go too high on aggression, the AI is a bit more out of position… But yeah 80 is what I use for playoff games 😉
So if you play 4 minutes periods, it quite changes the big picture… No ?
I also found another fix (it will be Active DMen Version 2) for the DMen that are caught like deer in headlights sometimes 😉
- @PernellKarl027 yeah for sure the 4 minutes makes a big difference but I was definitely pushing to try to achieve goal variety when I was adjusting the tuner set.
I need to give the roster sharing thing a go though for sure. I just used the base roster that came with latest version of nhl 23's.
I'll have to give the tuning thing a go again though when I get free time. See if I can find middle ground between what I want and how you do your sliders. I like the idea of position lock as well as I feel I'm less in control of the games now. This is good because I don't want to win every single game I play. Ideally I could tune this game so that the shooting is random enough so that your snipers can become streaky but not be locks to score all of the time. Hopefully I can figure out the goalie situation to where I can get some dirty looking goals but without the big issues of every single rebound popping out and such.
