if Sleeves' Discord is any indication, there's a ton of interest to keep the game going.
Its a wild ride over there and even with the issues in 23 there's a few thousand with keen interest. I can't speak about other influencers channels but his shows a lot of life.

FOMO is huge among sports gaming communities. When I look at my relationship with the NHL series, I'm just as naive as I've ever been - I play it every single year despite the nagging issues that seem to have plagued the series for a decade (why the heck does 1 person get to pause the game for 11 others in a drop-in?!?! STILL?!) and it's that fear-of-missing-out that drives my continued fandom.
When the game first launched, I was adamant this was it for me. "Not this year" But I discovered a little more nuance to the defensive side of things and decided I wanted to get better which mean it was time to grab the game again to compete in OVP.
My story isn't unique. Replace OVP with BAP or HUT or Franchise Mode - people just love the sport and want to experience the latest taste of what the developers want hockey to feel like on a controller.
I am incredibly disappointed that tuners are a thing of the past, for now. Minimal changes during the season might be some kind of attempt to garner more sales on release day, but I'm going to try and not be that cynical about it.
It sucks that we're only 2 months post-release and I'm already thinking of what might be in store for '24.

That's fair. I don't put too much emphasis on the 'state of the game' and just like to play it. I do notice the 'bugs' from time to time but it just adds to the humor of playing a video game that's trying to depict a sport.
I thought I was done with gaming but circumstances fell in place that allowed me to dabble again after 15+ years away. If the UTs were a thing in the 90s I probably would have never gave it up. I do get the feeling reading others that it might have been that time away that adds to my enjoyment today. I doubt I upgrade to X and have accepted this could be my last NHL game but we'll see what's around the corner when we get there.
