That's odd it's asking you to select an Xbox Live membership. Do you not have one? It might be required since there are online elements to this mode.
Who can confirm that it may have changed and now ‘might’ be required.

Try deleting your personal saved data. Press the Guide button and then highlight the NHL 23 tile. Then, hit the Menu button. It's the small one to the right of the Guide button with 3 horizontal lines on it. Next, go to Manage game and add-ons > Saved data. Delete the file with your gamertag on it.
***Warning*** There is the risk of losing offline saves and settings changes. Normally, these will download from the cloud, but I can't guarantee that. So, this could potentially delete your Pro-Am progress. Chances are good it won't, but I don't want to say for sure you won't lose any data. Use at your own risk.

I have done this as well without luck.

@EA_Aljo I have a legitimate question, I'm not trying to come off as a * or aggressive, but why is literally the only game on the market where we have to do so much on our end to attempt to play this game? And the fact that allot of there issues are reoccurring issues from previous installments of this game. Even if we do these things, there is only a 50/50 chance of it actually working, as well as being an issue down the road...?
Like if you could relay this message to a dev member or even rammer himself, these are primary reasons why allot of people are dropping out of this game, but it's hard to completely not play since it's the only hockey game on the market anymore..
I'd love to see the slowed down gameplay style similar to NHL 14, along with all the customization perks in EASHL from that game, as well as like the skating that is currently on the game. Give us like AI that we could play X amount of games that we play, so it learns how we would play a certain position, then use those in game ( mainly for club games). Then just make the AI moth just backskate forever then get burned by majority of the wingers that just skate by and go backhand forehand goal ALL the time... that would make this game much more enjoyable IMO.

I can’t even get to the point where I can make changes to my player.
I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled the game and it’s the same error message

Thanks for trying that. Next, let's see if alternate DNS settings might help. From the Xbox home screen, go to Settings > Network > Advanced settings > DNS settings > Manual. (If Settings doesn't appear on the home screen, select My Games & Apps, then Settings). From there, enter the Primary DNS as "208.67.222.222" and the Secondary DNS as "208.67.220.220". If that doesn't help, try using the google DNS servers which are: primary alt number 8.8.8.8 - secondary alt number 8.8.4.4.
This is a unique issue. Most people don't have to go through so much to play. You're welcome to add your suggestion to the Game Suggestions forum.

Thanks for letting me know. Unfortunately, I'm out of ideas for this. I really wish I had something else to suggest, but this being an odd issue, I don't have any other examples of it being resolved. If I can think of anything else, I'll let you know.
Out of curiosity, do you have another gamertag you can try? I'm curious if it happens on another account. I'd also be curious if the same thing happened with your normal account on another console.

I tried creating a new gamer tag. Logged in with it and got the same error message
