@FilthyPickles Competition would be great, but unlikely. There was some rumours that 2K were thinking about it some years back, but in the end said no. There is no other studios who could make one, due to the needed resources and potential returns the game could make. Making or adapting a game engine for hockey is a huge task.
I would love a PC version as well, but we will never get one, even after the main reason they stopped is gone, which was piracy. I think there's two main reasons why we don't get one now is:
- If PC version would be made and they don't drastically make better games in the future. People will mod hell out of it to make it better and that game will eat up the future sales as the modded game is better than the new versions of the game.
- The game code probably is such a mess that it will be hard to port it for PC now. The bugs we see in the games indicate this. I think there's been a serious churn for years now in the NHL team, so the knowledge of how the code works has been lost. New developers just keep adding new stuff in, then they leave and then the new batch of devs will come and add things in and then they leave etc. If this happens let say 10 years without proper knowledge sharing, the code becomes a huge mess and even simplest of bugs hard really hard to fix.
This is probably one of the reasons why many bugs persists for years in the games and also if they get fixed, they might appear in the next instalment or an update. The game would probably need a full rewrite at this point, but the team doesn't have resources to do this. EA won't give the time or the resources.
I do not envy the devs. I'm sure they're very capable, but everything is stack against them to deliver a good polished game.

Very similar to the truth unfortunately

of the logo in the wrong places, displaying pictures,
strategies
UI changing links under replays
all this is very similar to confusing unstructured code without documentation and order
