My issue is the 20 ping difference to what’s considered good to poor, vs the previous update. In fact nowhere within the details of the update is it mentioned that this would change.
My overall point, this change has done nothing to improve the online gaming experience, it’s misleading to those less educated on ping rates as to what’s an acceptable ping to play on, and seeking a more detailed reasoning as to why EA would change this good to poor rating system in regards to pings if there is by chance a beneficial reasoning to it.
There was an issue at release where the ping was listed incorrectly. That was fixed in an early patch so I don't know why it would all of a sudden go up. I'm also not seeing other reports of this, but will look out for them. Regardless, the father you are from the server the game is hosted on, the higher your ping will be.

The fact that it hasn’t been mentioned maybe is because it’s such a subtle change that it’s going to take an overly perceptive sucker like myself to take notice to it. I’ve noticed it twice now.
For me, I’ve caught it. So I know now when I’m skimming not to trust it says fair before I hastily ready up and actually look at the ping. Usually I’m looking at opposing builds/players, or 20ft away from my tv, so I used to be able to trust the colour. I can’t do that now.
For new players, those less knowledgeable about connectivity, or people really just not paying attention, this is a much bigger deal. My post is not biased towards my personal experience as much as it is a perspective on a bad decision that will inevitably cause more disappointment within the community.
I strongly recommend dialing it back and making it a more reliable feature for customers. When the complaints do come in about connectivity, who’s going to be the observant enough one to go maybe we shouldn’t have changed that and this wouldn’t have happened, rather than oh well they’ve been complaining about this forever.

I checked in to this and nothing has changed on our end in regards to how pings are displayed.

I hate to call it for what it is man but this is a false statement as I know what I’m talking about and I’m not making it up out of thin air. This benefits you guys to change this, not me. I personally don’t care. But I’m telling you this will only cause more connectivity complaints and you guys won’t even blink that this is part of the reason if you won’t acknowledge it when it’s being pointed out

Eliminator is more casual so 100+ whatever but I personally can't play Clubs when ping creeps over 55 (West Coast, average 10-20). I was already having issues finding games in November so I feel for teams like yours that have to deal with stretching across regions and servers. I think until something like a return of the old lobby system happens, all I can really suggest is making sure everyone is using a wired connection and you collectively allowing for a ~30ping buffer on what is shown
- southpaw863 years agoSeasoned Scout@TTZ_Dipsy It’s honestly not me complaining about connections. I’ve learned to work around EA and their connectivity issues as it’s never gotten better as far as connecting east and west. I joined this game on purpose so I could screen shot 115 sitting on a fair connection, opposed to 2 weeks ago when 115 would show up as poor, and always has.
My team notices because we need to focus on ping rates as discussed. We get games that connect fine for all of us but it’s a matter of staying focused on who’s pinging what. So if any team is going to noticed a difference in labeling ping rates it’s us.
All I’m saying is most aren’t that observant, especially these new players coming from games like Fortnite or COD where connectivity isn’t even a consideration because those games are literally built to play smooth online.
So what’s going to happen it’s younger players, less educated players, and non observant players are going to connect to these games, cry about connection, and unless it’s addressed EA won’t even consider this being part of the problem because well, connection is always being complained about so it’s nothing new and no big deal.
Honing in on small details like this is the difference between a game we play because it’s the only hockey game out there, and we actually enjoy playing EAs NHL. If EA is going to win back this community, start small and fix these ridiculous issues that only hurt the experience.
