Re: Franchise Mode Questions

@Bahamuta I hear you… when I first saw the teaser about being able to “customize teams” I thought they actually unlocked a bunch of customization options… including the ability to edit players…. But all they did was give us a league settings menu… I would hardly call that team customization… it isn’t that intense of an update… certainly not 80 dollars worth lol..

Last year was the first time I skipped buying an EA NHL game since the first one came out on the Sega Genesis back in 91. I wasn't planning on getting NHL 23, but the custom franchise mode has piqued my interest a bit. I would love to recreate the Smythe, Norris, Adams, and Patrick divisions. Will we have the ability to move teams? Colorado to Quebec and Carolina back to Hartford, for example?

@Blackhawksfan75 You can already do that in the previous games. You would create them as custom teams and substitute them in - you can move them between divisions at league start with an expansion team at the least.

This new update doesn't let you do that anymore - only recreate the divisions.

Whatever alignment you have at the start of your franchise is the one you’re stuck with. You can move the team you’re controlling mid-franchise, but that’s it.

  • Right and I knew you could do that on previous games. I also understand that once a franchise is created you can't do anything afterwards.

My question was, can you just move a team to a different city during the initial setup of your own franchise without having to create a new team with customized rosters?

The video showed choices on conferences, divisions, games, and etc. It didn't show (or mention) if you could move teams around to different cities. So, I was just wondering if that was something we could do.

@Blackhawksfan75 Well, I don't know about that specifically, so Aljo has to answer that. But is your goal to get the Hartford Whalers or the Hartford Hurricanes - because what you are asking to do would keep them as the Hurricanes.

@Blackhawksfan75 Are you saying move the Arizona coyotes to Quebec, with the coyotes roster but Quebec Nordiques name for example? If so, then I don’t believe you can.
Looking through the shallow “deep dive” video… you can move teams to different divisions and conferences… and in the team tab it looks like you can ‘substitute team’ but that means getting rid of that team for a different one… and I don’t think that’s what you’re looking for.
If you mean something like the relocation option in franchise mode… but want to know if we can do that During the set up screen? If that’s what you’re asking… I don’t think that’s going to be possible… they really shot themselves in the foot with this feature… it’s just a new settings menu… hardly a game changing feature… we still can’t control the league like we want to… all we can do is just make the schedule and division alignments, and then we play the awful sim engine and broken features like previous years… and still unable to do an expansion draft mid career….

Yes. This is exactly what I was hoping to do.

This would be my set up, but using all 32 NHL teams.

2 - conferences Campbell and Wales

4 - divisions Smythe, Norris, Adams, and Patrick

    8 - teams per division.

I will take the Adams Division for example as this is a division where I would 'move' a couple of teams to -

    Montreal

    Boston

    Buffalo

    Ottawa

    Quebec Avalanche

    'Hartford Hurricanes

    Hamilton Blue Jackets or Predators

(The above is all dependent on whether I can alter the city's name or not).

    Nashville or Columbus.

@Blackhawksfan75 I could be wrong… but I am pretty sure the only way to do that is create custom teams/rosters and then use that for your career… I am pretty sure that’s the only way to do it

I believe in previous NHL games that was the only way to bring in new teams. The downside with that method was either you ended up with duplicate rosters on two different teams, picked the scrap heap players from the free agent pool, or create a whole bunch of new players which was very time consuming.

I mean, if you are going to include a mode where the player can (basically) create their own NHL league; why not have the ability to change a team's name or (at the very least) their city?

It is probably wishful thinking, but maybe EA did include that ability, they just didn't mention it in the video due to time constraints.

@heavydutyrammerIt should be a slap in the face for EA NHL when you see NHL games from stone age compared to today. Look how many real Player likenesses they had in past. Also the Cup cellys are looking better same as the Player moving in the game.

09 has better graphics than 22, which is funny because half of their selling point of the frostbite engine was the graphics upgrades.

Its also absolutely * deplorable that EA charges $89.99 for the game they're releasing nowadays.

I'm here for this statement @WildeBEAST32!

With all the tech we get in all the other EA Games bring the game into the next phase, EA Hockey focuses on online play. I get it, that's the major draw for the game, and that's because they don't bring their "A" game. I mean EA Hockey is pretty much a Low Bottom 6 F.

If they had a really good offline mode, they'd attract more players, but their focus is online gaming. Don't get me wrong, I love the online play, I just don't have time to dedicate to it anymore. I'll stick with NHL20, so I can fix the Franchise Mode Errors.... High Elite Center at 26, which a 68 in face offs, makes no sense... especially when they don't even have a second position... Also why do some Goalies show up as G/G.... They are a Goalie, but also a Goalie?

  • Could I also request a setting that goes back to the old rule from a couple years ago when a players helmet gets knocked off, they can still stay on the ice?

Not a big fan of that rule change the NHL made but I understand the health concern.

I'd just like to have the option in rules settings.

We have the old icing and offsides available. Aswell as OT settings. Be nice to have this setting too.
