Re: Skater freezes when he gets possession of the puck

Xbox controllers can be pretty trash, even new one (I know because it happened to me too in nhl with a brand new controler). I've had this happened to me and every single time it was the right stick drift that completly negate your skating action and its not even noticable when it happen, just an ''invisible'' drift tick and bam, your guy is stuck, you need to shake the right stick to make it work again. It work perfectly fine on other games because it doesnt have the same impact on your characters.

Testing it on your xbox controler set up thing doesnt always reveal the drift, it's so minimal sometimes that it doesnt even show up when you test it. I literally had stick drifting one day then not for the days after then back to drifting, it's super annoying

While I'm convinced the right stick drift is causing it, I'm not taking side, I may be wrong about your controler. But trying out another controler could be the answer. Thats what I did everytime and it worked out everytimes.

  • Thank you for the feedback. I know you're right, that's exactly what's happening.

Still it would be nice if EA Sports would do something about it software-side, buffing the effect of the right stick drift instead of just having players buy new controllers for their specific game. I'm a développer myself and I know it could be done, but they won't bother.

There are so many simple fixes they could do to make NHL good again but I doubt they care since they have no competition. Game killing bugs are just one of them.

Thanks for community answers. Not so much to EA.

I understand you but it's hard to blame EA on that one for cheap products from other compagnies, its up to Microsoft and Sony to make conttrolers drifting-less, it's ridiculous the amounts of controllers I'm going through lol.

Yeah I guess the only way to avoid this to happen again is to give some slack to the right stick sensibily so the drift doesn't trigger as easily. It happened more this year to me than any previous years combined though, so maybe they changed something that create this issues to happen more often. Hope they can find out a solution just like with the ''can't pass the puck anymore'' bug.

    Cheers!

I'm glad you figured out what was causing this. I really don't see how we are to blame when the issue is actually with the controller. Building a feature to counteract this is good in theory, but I would imagine it's not as simple as it seems. It's also something that affects only those with a broken controller who will most likely get it repaired or replaced since this would be happening with every game and app so is it worth all the time and resources it would take to build and test this? Regardless, I'm glad the cause has been determined. Please reach out again if you have any other issues.
