Try deleting NHL 23 and download it again. This is pretty odd as every other report I've seen was resolved with the steps I've provided so I think it's just best to try to start over. This won't delete any online progress, but it's possible you'll lose offline progress. Normally, that downloads from the cloud, but I can't guarantee it.

Re-installing now. Not gonna lie, I'm a bit upset that I'm having to re-download a 40 GB game. It'll take about 30 minutes, so I'll report back once it's installed.

After completely re-installing the game, I'm still having the same issue.
Edit: I also just found out that I can't play online versus because of this either... awesome.

Thanks for trying that. Apologies for the frustration. Try deleting the personal saved data for NHL 23. Press the Guide button and then highlight the NHL 23 tile. Then, hit the Menu button. It's the small one to the right of the Guide button with 3 horizontal lines on it. Next, go to Manage game and add-ons > Saved data. Delete the file with your gamertag on it. There is the risk of losing offline saves and changes to settings you've made. Normally, those download from the cloud, but I can't guarantee this. Let me know what happens. Thanks!

Also, make sure you get the latest roster update. Since it added presentation to all teams, maybe it's somehow affecting this.

I did another complete power cycle. Unplugged my modem/xbox, completely deleted my save data from "manage game and add-ons. It made me repick my favorite team and everything. Yet, the game is still broken and stuck on select sides.

I'm out of ideas for this. So far, I haven't come across someone else these steps didn't work for so it's a pretty odd issue. I'll pass this on to the team and let you know when I have an update.
Edit: Try deleting your gamertag off your console and download it again. I'm not optimistic, but give that a shot and let me know what happens.

It's very frustrating. I hope we can get a fix soon. I haven't seen anyone respond saying that their game is fixed in this thread, and it's only gained more upvotes.

The only button that does anything at this screen is Y. It pops up "members in session" where it shows nothing. I can click B to get out of that screen. I can't click B to get of the select sides screen. Only way to get out is to dashboard the game. So far, this occurs on Online Versus, HUT SB, and HUT Rivals. I haven't checked WoC. Just trying to give you guys as much info as possible. Really, I just want to be able to play the game again.

Thanks for the video. That's a bit different. You're not loading into it at all. Previously, you got locked as the goalie, but that's not happening here. I've raised it to the team. I'll report back when I have some more information.

It would be a massive bummer if it's not fixed by the weekend. Already missed out on finishing with decent SB and Rivals rewards. Not being able to play Champs would be brutal, especially since I already registered for it. That's >100k coins worth of collectibles.

There is an ongoing issue effecting many players ability access online content. This issue first came to my attention Tuesday following the update. Tech support here have been making the claim that the issue many players were experiencing were the result of the severs being down.
This might have been the case for some, but many still have no online access and haven't since Tuesday. Hut locks up on the select team screen, chel has all game modes "locked".
I have tried every troubleshooting method including going to the extent of trying a entirely different Xbox console, freshly factory reset, with a new install of NHL 23, on a different internet connection, with a different controller, the issue persists. EA support has assured many users experiencing this issue that this is a backend problem they currently have a team working on/investigating. They have not however acknowledged the issue in public in any capacity. NHL 23 twitter is still talking about new content updates without any reference to the issue.
Here's what I want to know, if a team is working on the issue, as ea tech support and EA help twitter have both suggested, where can I find public acknowledgment of the issue and followup information on when it will be resolved....something along the lines of "we are aware of an issue effecting players from accessing online content like hit and chel"...furthermore how am I to know when the game will be working outside of just trying it a couple times a day? This is what Ive currently been doing for the last few days and everytime I waste time trying to load up the game only to be let down by the realization that the issue has still not been addressed, I get closer and closer to just refunding the game entirely.
