Understanding Goalie Concepts
Oh EA_Aljo, Great swami of knowledge, through the ritual of 400 pucks burning on a pile of broken goalie sticks, and the sacrifice of a round 1 draft pick, I summon thee!
Oh great EA_Aljo, I wish for you to answer my questions three. In the past, youve been an awesome resource for helping me understand the game, and improve on a mechanical level. From that point, i have another few questions for you if you dont mind.
firstly, I have noticed as a goaltender, that triangle and R2 are two different butterfly stances. When switching between the two in free skate, it is clear that triangle is a slightly wider stance with less of a harsh angle, and seems to also disable rebound control techniques such as kicking the puck out to the side. Ive theorized that this is to keep rebounds close to cover. Are you able to confirm this? But also, does the different stance affect savability or stats at all?
Next is momentum. A couple perks (most notably butterfly effect) say increased savability with and against momentum. I have seen you guys deny the existence of a momentum mechanic in the game. Is this meant to be movement momentum, forward or backwards, or does momentum exist within Chel?
and Thirdly, the five hole stat. When does this stat come into play? Obviously for auto saves when not in butterfly, but does it also affect the odds of someone stuffing it in when in butterfly? If so, does it also affect five hole when using the right stick to slide? (and on the topic of sliding, does butterfly effect affect sliding saves? After all, the maneuver is called a butterfly slide.)
Thank you in advance.
- @LithiumCZ Since Aljo hasn’t replied I’ll give you some feedback on those three questions.
1) Triangle/Y is a hold puck command in anticipation of a save you can cover. Yes, you go into butterfly, but it’s not going to give you the same effect as L2/LT butterfly.
2) It’s momentum based solely on body movement. So a better chance to make a save when sliding in towards a shot that may come at you or go other side. Your momentum within the context of the direction.
3) The five hole stat simply affects likelihood of saving pucks that are shot five hole when you are in butterfly manually (greater improvement) or with the auto mechanic. If you are in motion it would only factor in if the the puck is shot and you aren’t in a push that would result in your legs opening.
Butterfly effect is best used when in that position, yes. And sliding is implied in the momentum aspect description.
