WOC Player Development

This could actually fix a lot of problems.. hear me out!

I think our players should be able to be upgraded throughout the year and it should be done similar to 2k where you can play your career or multiplayer.. how would this fix anything?

Problem #1

Drop in clubs- playing drop-in will not allow you to play with your player but with a load out similar to what we have now. You will not recieve any XP for your play. This mode will be geared toward learning how to play online, testing out builds, and recruiting players for your club.

Problem #2

Players ragging the puck- winning the game only offers a bit of XP but acts as a multiplyer. Hiding behind the net will not net you much XP because you're not doing anything. I would also consider that holding on to the puck for "X amount of time" could lower the progress made..

Problem #3

Clubs sandbagging- There are plenty of clubs that reset their club so they will have easier opponents. I think if you had an XP multiplier for club level we may see less of this. Div 10 club xp multiplier x1. Div 9 club XP multiplier ×1.2 and so on. I would also have clubs who have been running longer (in time) and clubs with bigger stadiums earn more.. because fans should like a stable long lasting club and obviously a bigger stadium has more seats.

Problem #4

The game being extremely stale and feeling like a meaningless unfun grind. No one... and I mean NO ONE is having fun opening up hockey bags when you have a 1 in 32 chance of getting gear from the NHL team you like.. especially when you've unlocked all of this year after year. Let us just buy the clothes we want with in game currency. Our progression will be making our skater better.

Consideration #1

Maybe add ways to get a bit more XP for playing multiple modes (just not any XP for drop-in or ones) let us grind our career but then maybe get some xp from club 6's, club 3's, threes but any mode can get you to a 99. Obviously the game may need to adjust what our 99 characters are capable of so nothing is completely broken.

Consideration #2

Maybe consider seasonal caps. Maybe you don't want 99s vs 70s.. we could still earn xp after we cap our season and that xp will transfer and level the player up into the next season. Only issue would be players that develop through my career and can't continue to develop player.. but this would be okay if there were multiple character slots or other things to grind out and develop.

Not saying this whole game needs to be like 2k (but that would be cool) but they have the winning formula right now and this... doesn't. I don't need a whole city to walk around (but that would be cool) but give us some stuff we can grind out and have fun with.. let us get our contract with our team in our career and sign with CCM or Warrior. Make the game deeper and more enjoyable..

  • As someone who has played a fair bit of 2k's carrer-mode and park mode over the past few years, let me make one thing abundantly clear:

WE DON'T WANT MULTIPLE GAMES HAPPENING IN A SINGLE INSTANCED SERVER LIKE NBA 2K'S PARK GAMES. THAT STUFF SUCKS.

It makes the game so incredibly laggy. Please just stick to the dedicated, one server for one game method. Seeing other games happening around you as you traverse a city is cool "in theory" but it's not cool in actuality. Actually, the whole "open-world city" thing is something that is cool in theory but is actually just a headache. I remember last year's 2k didn't even have FAST TRAVEL so you had to run/skateboard around the city with the terrible controls... even when playing offline games only...

Yeah the randomized loot-boxes in WoC are so ugly. I though we've moved past that as a strategy and isn't there a much better way to monetize the game-mode anyway? Just make "outfits" and sell them for currency in an actual in-game-mode shop like CoD does. On top of that, award players points after each game that they can alternatively use to unlock the EXACT SKINS THEY WANT. A la Rainbow Six Siege or what have you.

That's fair, and I wouldn't need that. I'm just saying how deep that game is. If NHL did something like this it would be nice if it was a much smaller city.. and it would be nice to be able to walk into a building and scout drop in games.. like you couldn't walk around the rink or anything but you could watch/ change the camera. I can see that not bugging down the servers especially if viewers had to wait to view when there is a stoppage.

@TTZ_Dipsy I would only remove this penalty for drops. I think it would just make it easier to quit when you get a troll on your team. I can see how it could be a problem too though. When I get a guy who goes offside and just stands a foot over the line preventing the rest of the team from entering.. you don't have any interest in playing anymore.. i mean personally I dunno why people waste their lives/ time and do that or pay $60 to do it.. just seems like you gotta hate your life.

I could see a better practice mode being really nice. Allow clubs to run drills together and stuff. Teaching friends who have never played how to challenge a 2 on 1 or how to one time with a defender trying to disrupt it is sorta tough while playing.

Personally I just think drops needs changes. Too many trolls, too many people with no idea what they're doing, too many "quality" clubs (personally I'm not upset if they're a below average club learning to play) playing vs random groups. I'd be good with hearing other suggestions but for now it's just a hard mode to have fun with.

Yeah, I agree a system would have to be created to ensure players don't get penalized wrongly. I mean currently the game knows where we are on the ice (it highlights defensive zones for people in BAP) I would just have a timer in the defensive zone, it speeds up a bit if behind the net.. and it does not reset until there is a change of possession. This would keep players from going past the blue and cycling it back. It would also not penalize a team for passing it back and missing a target as long as you're trying to move the puck up with some pace. Then the ref can either call something, a player blows a tire, or all opponent stats and energy is absolutely depleted. I think nearly everyone who plays this game knows something needs done to combat this.. we just all disagree with what and to what extreme. Unfortunately EA does not feel this needs corrected.
