Checking in NHL 24

This might be a stupid question, but I don't get the new checking controls in NHL 24 on PS5. According to the help menu, a body check is performed using the circle button. But apparently you can use the right stick as before as well. What are the differences?

The screenshot is in Swedish, but the circle one translates to "body check". The upper one for the right stick translates to "push check", and the lower one to "shoulder check".

I'm really thankful for any clarification!

The circle button is a shortcut button to throw a cross check. If you only push up on the right stick it will shove the other player. You need to push down and then up to cross check. So hitting only circle makes it easier to one button cross check someone. However hitting someone in this game is near impossible so good luck with that.
    hope this helps you.

Thanks a lot! 🙂 I had a feeling that the circle button was, as you said, a shortcut. To me, it isn't logical to use down and up on the right stick when the player for example is to the left or right of you. But I guess I'll have to practice and get used to it.

Anyway, I really appreciate your help!
