You are right. This gameplay tonight after the patch is crap. 85 hits a game is not hockey. No skill required. This game is not hockey. There will not be a much needed overhaul to this game until it is new gen only. It is so not fun to try to play hockey when the game play is just crap like it is now.
When my team is playing we're only seeing around 30-50 hits per game counting both teams. If people are seeing them in the 70 to 80s then it's probably a goon squad just chasing hits or people need to learn to slide and avoid checks from people trying to steamroll them. I mean I play as a defenseman and in my league I played 22 games and finished the season with only 25 hits. Now back in NHL 23 I was averaging around 5 hits per game. My build hasn't changed so I would say they have toned down checking a bunch and smart players know when to avoid the obvious open ice hits.

I agree. Although I'm not a fan of the added acceleration to body checking, it's still avoidable if you're not trying to skate at full speed all game long. I also think the changes had an effect on the reverse-hit because I've rarely been successful with it:
You'll notice that I'm able to avoid a hit if I enter a glide. This is the key to avoiding the tractor-beam:

Most players are not smart. The franchise has progressively eroded the collective intelligence of the player base by catering to the lowest common denominator for years.
That said, it doesn't matter how smart or evasive you are when a slight graze from a slow moving hip check delivered by a 5'7 160lb dangler can send you helicoptering 5 feet into the air.
- KlariskraysNHL2 years agoHero@RicochetII Oh I agree the hipcheck is a terrible thing. The amount of times I have been hit from behind with it as a dman drives me crazy. If they called proper penalties might not be a problem as much, but still checking stats and size and weight need to matter so much more. Lots of these non checking builds should have checking in the low 60s. Overalls shouldn't matter. It's making a player excel in the areas they should excel in and have them a huge liability in areas they should be.
Overall the whole attribute system needs more weight to stats. Having low 80s shouldn't be something considered great when it comes to NHLers in an attribute based game. I mean I use like 76 checking on my TWD and I can if I want still hit people just fine. That to me shouldn't really be a thing. For me being a solid checker should require around 85+ checking. 90 of course would make you a beast.
But as I said the weight of attributes need to matter more.
