This game just continues to make me sick.
I'm sick of poke checks doing nothing when players are skating right at me.
I'm sick of the rampart hip-checks that are now the hitting meta in the game.
I'm SO SICK OF ICON PASSING that I can't turn off and that I hear that annoying chime from not only my icon passing, but everyone else as well.
I'm sick that the smoothness of something as simple as sending a slapshot down down the ice in 23 has turned into a slow slog of an animation.
I'm sick of the pressure meter (that I once liked) that eats my stamina and goalie's stamina so much that it's impossible to to fight for the puck.
I'm sick that when I actually get the puck that I can't clear it because it goes two feet and right into the glove of players waiting to grab the flimsy clear.
I'm sick of the menus that seem even more lagged this year and that some menus are even worse with QoL this year than last year. Who thought the edit away/home player menu system was a good idea?
I'm absolutely sick of this battle pass crap.
I'm sick of some of the in-game sounds sounding like NHL 94.
I'm sick of having to use XP boosts to move the XP meter even though I'm winning in 3's drops AND 6's club.
I'm sick of the entire experience of this game being a buggy mess. I wonder how many nullpointers I'm getting from start to edit player to edit loadout to crashing in the DR in the background.
I'm sick that for years, EA hasn't been able to build off the game before it instead of seemingly starting from scratch and having to uber-patch into December/January because it feels like no one that knows how to play games tests the nitty-gritty before release.
I'm sick that we have get charged $60 - $100 each year for a alpha build release.
I'm sick and tired of this being the only NHL game on the market.
I'm not sick that EA is trying to get out relevant patches this year (unlike last year), but gameplay changes after betas should be minor. The big focus should be on QoL, but getting this game into a fair, working state for the modes that most people play might be near impossible with the one-press super buttons.

LoL. That was a rant and a half, wasn't it? I'm sorry guys, but can you imagine if they took the effort that went into creating a whole chel store, chel coins, and HUT money into actual gameplay features and additions before the release of the game?
Instead, as a defenseman, I get to enjoy this happening over and over and over and over. Gold Stick 'Em Up with a 90+ Stick Checking gets you absolute nothing. I'm trying to abuse the Hip-Check, but with this happening, what other options do I have? Can't really hit regular because that barely works since I have to have my speed/accel at 92 just to catch the speedy wingers. I'm not saying poke should always work, but my goodness, the forwards don't have to do anything but keep skating like the D isn't even there.

Don't be sorry, lol ! We feel your pain and it’s good to vent once in awhile, instead of breaking controllers and stuff 😉
It’s also ok to vent as long as we keep it civilized… I’ve done my share of venting since 24 came out 😏
BTW, look at the XPs @Jagavekov first post in this thread. It’s unfreakinbelievable ! At least we are not alone thinking that way….
Peace ✌️

this stuff simply cant happen if youre going to nerf DSS and also have poke checking result in almost a total loss of speed....i just dont understand how were still no closer to a well balanced online experience than we were in NHL 09 (we might be farther away actually)
just simple breakdown here:
offense - incorrectly sprints into a defender with almost zero puck protections as theyve initiated a sprint. Did literally nothing right = breakaway, beat his man by a mile
defense - incorrectly uses stick rather than body but timed the poke well enough for contact = flat-footed, completely out of the play, didnt slow the offense down at all as incidental contact was severely decreased in NHL 23 for some reason
how can we continue to pretend that defensive tools are why this game lacks time and space online without even remotely trying to address sakting speed, accelration, incidental contact, pass accuracy, shot accuracy, etc...? we have people that claim they want defense to be a skilled position yet we dont want to give them any of the tools that would push the game that route? We want defense to have a higher skill gap but we keep insisting that we need to be able to intercept every pass ever and that we shouldnt be allowed to skate or truly utilize our body position in a physical manner?
breaking down a simple 1v1 like this into rewarding outcomes for both sides is paramount!! this needs to be in a good place before we start balancing other things..we still do not have prper or expected 1v1 outcomes!!!

It looks like you're hitting the stick instead of the puck. It also looks like DSS might be engaged with the stick sweeping from outside in. I regular poke may have targeted the puck better. In this case, a hit would have probably stopped this play instead.

You are completely missing the point and the forward should lose the puck in that situation 10 out of 10 times. Just because we are good at D does not mean we get to ignore the problems at hand. Also I would not be throwing open ice hits in this game because a lot of times that will leave you out of position. Lets think about this for a moment. This is a 1 on 1 situation in relative open ice. Now ask yourself did the forward make any type of deke move, protect puck move, or anything to avoid getting the puck poked off their stick? Simply put the offensive player skated into a poke check. The poke check should have knocked the puck away. The forward was rewarded for skating into a poke check.
Now I play defense just like you do and in this situation i would NOT have gone for the hit. I would've done a more controlled poke standing still rather than skating fast and then poking. That still doesn't change the fact that the game mechanics are off. If a forward can just skate directly into a poke check and not lose the puck easily then something is wrong with the game.
In all reality what should happen there is that the D man should simply strip the puck while the forward falls behind the D man for skating the puck into traffic and then the D man skates the other way. The forward should be punished for making a BAD decision. The forward should've dumped the puck or passed back to restart the rush.
This is a core problem in the game right now. Why is it that this defenseman has to be make an absolute perfect move but the forward can just skate into a straight line with no move and keep the puck? This is why more people choose to play offense.
