I'm baffled how you wouldn't think this is op.
Maybe because I didn't say that?
I'm top 100 in OVP. I've played roughly 20+ WoC games with a Div 1, Div2 team. I've seen the hip check be attempted plenty of times and maybe land once.
I have ZERO issue with hip check and I rarely use it. I have ZERO problem avoiding it when I see it coming.
I think the majority of complaints are coming from HUT users who are playing a mode that is already plagued with issues when it comes all the boosts and attribute fluctuations. In this mode, I can see how something like Hip check is OP because in that mode, the smallest adjustments make anything OP. Not to mention I've seen the hip check bug out in HUT but never in OVP/WoC. HUT is a cancer.
The majority of complaints comes from non 1v1 modes where if you play against good teams it's clearly an issue. 1v1 modes of course it's easy to avoid. You only have to focus on 1 guy doing it.
And my first 20 woc games didn't have it either but now it's the meta and every good team is using it.
If you've only seen it plenty of times, then you're being ignorant to how OP it is when a whole team of 6s or 3s uses it whenever there's a puck along the wall.
Hip check is effective versus players trying to constantly squeak by defenders and/or skating too fast with the puck. Rather than make adjustments, people want the mechanic nerfed. I have no doubts it will be. There have been instances where a hip check triggers an animation bug - obviously that should be fixed. But I don't think it should have its effectiveness nerfed because "top players" have a hard time avoiding it.

Which people do you think have an issue with hip checks working perfectly as intended and shown in real life as in the way you just described?
You honestly think people are in an uproar and want a nerf for something working the exact way it works in real life?

No, I think some people are in an uproar because fundamental aspects of the core gameplay and controls have been adjusted in an effort to make the game feel new - something most of the people in an uproar have claimed to have wanted for "decades".
They've finally been given the "massive changes" they've been asking for, and rather than take time to adjust, rather than take some time to understand why they're being clipped with hip checks and coming out on the bad end of those exchanges more often than not - they want the same changes they've been asking for to be removed/reverted so that they can continue playing the same old game and giving into the same old habits, only to complain in a few weeks time that the game is 'stale' and a 'copy/paste'
You're in a stage right now where people who are trying to play NHL 24 the exact same way they've played all of the previous games are raging because the thing that always worked for them before aren't working anymore and/or they're harder to execute.

Well then respectfully I think this is a poor take and I don't think you understand why people want said change.

My buddy is using a playmaker build in EASHL and is dishing out proper cross/shoulder checks just fine.
Didn't realize just needing to pull back then up would cause this much trouble - People also forget that we used to have a dedicated hipcheck button (R3) last gen
- rabid55wolverine2 years agoNew Vanguard
I think the hip check overall is fine and I don't care that it's meta but it is 100% overpowered. I got hip check on a forecheck when the other team had pressure last night and we were both skating the same way. I got touched and went flying and he picked up the puck.
Please explain how to hip check a player skating in the same direction? If you cannot explain it, it is OP. I agree it's more in the animations and what happens when contact is made because you automatically go flying but it is also fairly easy to avoid by taking more time instead of flying all over the ice at top speed when your agility nerfed.
- KlariskraysNHL2 years agoHero
My problem is with how people use it. In the video below it's being misused and the only way to correct this is by nerfing it's movement ability. It should have a very small movement range when performed to combat inappropriate usage. If it wasn't for having 97 agility I'd probably get smoked on illegal hipchecks to the front of the legs.
Regular checking works just fine in the game but if people use the hipcheck more than a common check it means change needs to happen. Hipchecks are meant to be used as a pinch type check usually along the boards/narrow path.
- TTZ_Dipsy2 years agoHero+
@KlariskraysNHL
I don't feel like the hipcheck is being misused here - yes, they are typically used along the boards to separate the carrier from the puck, but mid-ice hits still happen from time to time. If we're gonna add clipping (and change controls to adjust the height of our hits) to the game, they better re-add boarding, hits from behind, and actually enforce interference and "unsportsmanlike" penalties - EA_Aljo2 years ago

Hey, everyone. Just a quick update. We're keeping an eye on the reports of hipchecking being OP. It's currently being investigated. Thanks for all the feedback.

@TTZ_DipsyIt's the frequency of the use and the outcome that's the issue here, lol. Three people tried to hip-check him back to back to back. Now imagine a team that can utilize the hip-check at any time throughout the whole game, all the time. We got tired of it being done to us, so we learned how to do it ourselves. Again, it's the easiest way to separate the puck from the player. Easier than a shoulder check. Easier than a shove. Easier than a poke check. That's a problem.

Perfect demonstration of how bad it is and how top teams will utilize it. - Jammalammalam2 years agoSeasoned Veteran@KlariskraysNHL Lol. Yup. We do it. We're good at it. It works. Not ashamed to say it's just dumb at this point and it's an issue. Every time it feels something was fixed from 23 (Like the LT ballerina), something else comes along to replace it.
NHL 23 far side wrist shot cheese? Don't need that anymore because your goalie will be flopping around the crease for no reason for easy goals in no time with only about one bar of pressure which equals your goalie having a spasm flop attack.

Ugh. One step forward, two steps back with NHL every, single, year. - 2 years ago
By all means buff shoves and regular checks in order to combat ballerinas but this hip checking meta right now in 6s is just beyond dumb and unrealistic.

Ugh. One step forward, two steps back with NHL every, single, year.Yea, not a huge fan of goalies turning into beer-league goalies. Goalie fatigue during full pressure scenarios doesn't make much sense to me. Many goalies thrive under pressure and this blanket approach that every goalie is suddenly in dire straights after 30-seconds of pressure in the 1st period is just.. weird.
- Jammalammalam2 years agoSeasoned Veteran@KidShowtime1867 The pressure system is one of the ideas I really liked. It makes sense. Pass the puck around in the zone, take great shots, and be rewarded. I just think the players losing stamina super fast and not being able to retrieve or clear pucks is enough. I think the goalie can do without a stamina meter to be honest.

Possessing the puck fills up the bar way too much way too quickly and passing shouldn't fill the bar. Stamina drains way too fast.
