I'm not being sarcastic. We've already stated numerous times the hybrid controls are returning. As far as whether or not I think a store is going to issue a refund goes, that's not up to me. It's up to the retailer.
I don't have details on why they were removed.
As someone who's played the EA NHL series since NHL '93, I look forward to each new release, but removing the controls that us 'lifers' rely on is not ok.

Well said ! I just wanna know why they were removed, adding new controls is fine however removing something this important just doesn't make any sense at all.

So old control schemes might need changed/edited. So maybe they deemed the new controls good enough for everyone and that maintaining older schemes were not worth it each year.
We still aren't even sure if the hybrid controls won't be changed up a bit. Skill Stick control got some changes to it. It will be a wait and see type thing. - RSall142 years agoSeasoned Veteran

Clearly they didn't understand their community and it's players, this was also a way to force everyone to use total control. They didn't account for disabled and older fans of the series who rely on old control schemes.

This has nothing to do with forcing people to use the new Total Control scheme. Personally, I'm sticking to skill stick because I've had a hard time adapting to Total Control and not clicking down on the right stick, but it's getting better. I'm adapting to it.
I truly feel terrible for those with mobility issues that can't use the new controls. I imagine that was one of the deciding factors for bringing the Hybrid controls back. We certainly don't want to alienate those players.
As far as this goes to those that are not disabled though, this game is vastly different than it was in 1994. Those controls were great when you had a very simple control scheme. In 2023 that's just not the case as there are far more functions now. Every time something new gets added, it somehow needs to be mapped to legacy controls. Then we have to also take in to account exploits. Such as how backskating with protect puck was abused. So, that needs to be mapped to something else. We can't have old controls where this is still possible since that defeats the purpose of removing this exploit. Quite simply though, this game isn't meant to be played with a Sega Genesis controller when it's made to support modern hardware. Again, in the case of disabled players, I wish we had a simplified control scheme for you all to use. Hopefully, the Hybrid controls will still let many of you play.
You act as if we did this to be malicious. Which absolutely is not the case.
