And no you can't turn off the pressure meter on the ice

Or, you know, they were trying to lower the amount of delay of game penalties by ensuring the puck doesn't clear the glass as often. There's a new META (pressure Meter) that encourages the clearing of the puck. If they hadn't adjusted the dump height, you'd see an endless stream of complaints that delay of game penalties are out of hand and eA kNoWs NoThiNG aBoUt HoCkeY lol
They overcorrected a bit and should probably adjust it so that you can clear the puck high enough at certain areas of the ice.
But this constant "ThEy DoN'T kNoW NuThIn' 'bOuT hOcKeY' is so dumb. They're trying to adjust things based on feedback. It's not always going to be perfect.

There are many improvements to NHL 24.cpu dmen ai is better, they now shoot the puck.
In zone defense is also slightly better. Two things need to be fixed outside of everyone's wishes of removing the visible pressure meter on ice:
1) dumping the puck is SEVERELY underpowered, which creates a double whammy.
cpu and human will have much harder tim clearing the puck, which will make pressure situations feel unearned and cheaper.
Also playing the dump and chase style is nearly impossible now, for both you and the cpu. Please bring the old dump mechanic back in a future patch.
2) add a way for us to tune
pressure situations: less often, less nerfed ratings during thise sutuations, etc.
Thanks

So there’s a few glaring issues with gameplay both offline and online. Pressure system in concept is great, it builds a tad too quickly still in my opinion. Which moves to the larger issue, the debuff received is a bit too much especially since it doesn’t end of the defensive team carries the puck out of the zone.
You can manage to go from defensively hemmed in to trying to forecheck in the other zone with puck control, but STILL be experienced the nerf effect until the Pressure timer is done. That’s a bit backwards and just hurts the team finally fighting back. Shouldn’t be that hard to implement a code in the game to register the defensive team clears own blue line, debuff removed. The other huge issue, it’s far too easy to lose the puck, not pickup the puck, regardless of the stats related to those movements. Often you can be sneezed on and just give the puck to the other team. You could be battling for a rebound and just, not shoot/get the puck despite being on top of it and uninterrupted.
Those two things are super painful so far, another note, can the celebration cutscenes be turned off in offline PLEASE. They’re beyond immersion breaking, online, fine I get having them, offline they’re just bad and break game flow entirely.
Also small things, defensemen are too easily blown past/AI dmen are brainless and go for pokechecks at center ice too much leading to odd men rushes as they can’t adjust. Flip passing for zone clearing on the PK literally doesn’t work.

Hipchecks are still way too OP. Nobody should be stumbling or falling when grazed by a hipcheck. It reminds me of the cannonball era from NHL 13(?).
Either decrease the charge time of dumps or rework how dumps work. I understand not being able to flip it halfway down the ice without needing to charge it, but you need to hold R1 down for like 5 seconds until it's fully charged.
A rework that could work for the future is the longer you hold it affects the arc of the dump. If you barely press R1 you get a high dump, less accurate dump which increases delay of game probability. If you hold it it's more accurate, and the puck has no chance of going over the glass.

I really like a lot of the changes brought to NHL 24, but still there so many things wrong with it from a defending perspective in EASHL:
1) Poke checks aren't strong enough against players with high speed / agility. Any attempt knocks off the puck for a split second before the attacker picks up the puck again and flies by due to the defender speed penalty.
2) The stick lift is still completely useless, to a point where I don't even use it when there would be a 99% success chance in real life.
3) While two essential defensive mechanics are still broken, attackers can now execute all kinds of dekes successfully at the push of a single button. This is valid even after the latest changes and completely unbalanced.

@KidShowtime1867Well maybe they should learn to adapt to being under pressure or maybe the devs just wanted to nerf defense to show how great a job they did with this new Meta

@Treatmentworke66
Me: I think we have a problem here.
Shills: You just need to adapt. Something Something defensive skill gap.

The fact this patch was released without hybrid goalie controls is unfathomable. We're stuck with a goalie control system which has as its whole purpose to pull us out of position.
I cannot believe someone at EA actually tried tether mode and said "This is great, the players will love it. Go with that."

Puck pickups are very unbalanced. A puck is easier to pick up through a player than when the puck is in between your skates and stick. There should be a delay there, but too often players are picking pucks off of good defensive plays but because the puck ends up in skates after a good hit or a good poke check, the offense is simply regaining possession back too easily.

It's not only puck pickups that are on balance it's the ability to hang on to a puck and sometimes your guy just literally does some crazy animation where his arms just go all weird and doesn't help the fact that most of the time you just bump somebody slightly and you both go flying so there is no puck control in this game I don't know how this game made it out the door any type of quality you control what it said wait a minute what are you doing letting this out Oh wait it's EA we're talking about my bad 😂
- 2 years ago@KidShowtime1867 That's really not an accurate concern, IMO. I might have gotten a single delay of game penalty last year. I'm a PK-specialist defenseman who would probably get 2 clears on average each PK. We're probably talking 1,000+ clears. Practicing dumps for literally 5 minutes in practice mode will let you know when you can and can't dump the puck. I got to a point where I could flip the puck right after the red line and softly drop it right in the corner and create a 50-50 battle if their D wasn't ready for it. It was a great, realistic part of the game that mimic'd real life.
To me, it just seems like they're making it harder to get out of your zone (making the exhaustion engine more of a factor) by getting rid of mechanics that were already realistic. They didn't want people clearing the puck to reset the exhaustion engine even though that's literally what happens IRL.- 75fd980e1b1839002 years agoRising Veteran@ScottMallon1 I'm just hopping onto your post to mention for those who aren't aware - aside from the RB usual clear method, you can also tap the R stick up twice to get rid of the puck.
This second method works better in the defensive zone. There is no queue, but it does lack height, though balanced via decent power.
I feel like EA should make some sort comment on how dumping is going to work this year, including what your options are since there are at least 3 ways to dump the puck that I know of. There may be more, it's unclear, and it may cut down on posts about it if they cleared the air on what your players options are for dumping the puck, and if any specific type was created intentionally for any specific situation.
Of course, I'd also like to know if the typical RB method will be reverted to normal, even if half way.- phillyfan22332 years agoSeasoned Rookie
the cpu clears the puck with the weak dump everytime. They also dump and chase with that flip dump everytime making cpu dump and chase very ineffective.
If the cpu uses all the ways to dump and chase and clear the puck , thatd be great but as it is they ONLY use the flip dump to clear and dump and chase. Please fix this....if you cant make the cpu use all the ways to dump/clear, at least give the flip dump power and height like nhl 23 so the cpu can function better.
- BoredJason132 years agoRising Veteran@ScottMallon1 I miss the days of NHL17 & 18 where all you had to do on D or on the PK was (PS4 control) hold R1 and flick the right analog stick and your defenseman would just wack the puck away hahaha. Such a simpler time. But I do miss being able to dump the puck out of the zone properly, not dump it and the puck only go 5 feet
