Poke checks.
I play hockey and I watch hockey. But im not an NHLer so ill refer to what I see on tv. Watching a game, and thinking about how poke checking causes penalties in NHL 24, I count about 700 trippi...
As for demanding simulation and complaining when game is too hard. There are many reasons you see this.
1-The "Community" is not one person. Its several groups of different people. So its possible one group enjoys harder while the other doesnt. Doesnt mean that its the same group who demanded simulation who now complains its harder.
2-Simulation is great when it makes sense. I explained in my other reply that it makes sense to me to be accountable for stuff that is realistic. It is bs when I have to be accountable for bad design.
I recall when you removed major penalties for hitting from behind where people were kicked out of the game. I couldnt believe it. It was the most obvious call ever and you guys nailed it as far as only kicking people who acted like morons and hit with intent to hurt. It was realistic, it was easily preventable, yet you removed it and by the same token, removed accountability for hitting. I recall us laughing at the one tool on our team who kept getting called for those and we would call it as he was hitting the guy because we could easily tell when it was going to be a match penalty. That was good design, and you removed it. Why? It impacted offense players 99% of the time.
Poke spam, as much as people hated it, is the closest it brought the game to good realistic hockey. It actually created a LOT of accountability on offense players forcing plays instead of cycling the puck and you removed it....because it impacted offense players.
Now in comparison, poke checking penalties and stick lifting penalties. You poke from a weird angle with no intent to hit the guy, but it hits his hip on the way to the puck and he falls over....its completely absurd. its also inconsistent. Its so hard to tell when you can properly poke and people just play it ultra safe now with poking. Its not as blatent as....guy is facing board im coming full speed to hit. Its....oh this guy is at a 45degree angle so maybe ill get penalty if I poke despite making no sense whatsoever but at 43degree its probably safe enough to poke but then again maybe my guy decides to track puck wrong and go 20 degree away from the puck and poke the skates instead so yah ill just wait when im 5 feet away and the very tip of my stick cant reach the skates...but yah im also now no longer applying the right pressure which completely change the gameflow. Lift sticks...oh yah...45 degree no good gotta face the guy....behind no good...nobody lift sticks a guy from behind in real hockey while they dont see it (sarcasm) but then again, maybe ill just auto slash the guy or go straight for his face in an angle that makes absolutely no sense....so maybe ill just avoid lift sticking.
you cant blame people for being pissed at accountability in these bad designs. Its people being pissed at the bad design, not the accountability.
You give me almost no tools, the tools you give me are wonky and inconsistent and you want me to feel accountable?
The accountability issue isnt coming from defense players. Its 100% coming from offense players.
