I got “used to” the new hitting and am pretty good at timing it now but there are times when you dont have time to use the “slapshot” motion to hit. I got used to it but i still hate it. I also agree that the animation and power for this year are crap compared to the past NHL games. Previously i never really seen issues with players avoiding hits before they changed to this new mechanic. Also as ive said on other posts, if you do time it and smash a player, half the time they bounce right back up and are still in the play vs if i miss a hit, shove the air, the guy blows by and im completely out of the play.
Every year its basically copy & paste but i still love playing the game, but this new * is * dumb, & to boot how come i didnt get the "loyalty packs for HUT" like we did in the past??
Everything is wrong with this new hitting , the hitting controls is totally crap and the hitting motion looks really stupid . It just feels very wrong and its not a fun game anymoore
@Grizzlybear496 @recipe87 me and my club completely agree. We score a lot of goals as well so we arent just some goon team that complains because the hitting was changed and all we do is skate around and hit people and take penalties. We play the game to score and win but we LOVE the hitting aspect of it. I personally am a grind it kind of guy most nights. I hit, play in front of the net for deflecting and rebounds. I hit people after the whistle because i think its hilarious and makes it super fun to me. I definitely prefer the old hitting style controls, the old animations, and just was hoping since they added glass breaking and hitting into the bench that they made the animations better with the same controls but its much much worse now.
Juat wana point out glass breaking & putting people into the bench is NOT new they had it way back when then stopped for a period of time. Have any of you guys played i think it was espn version they made one i believe. That was decent u went to a season or whatever, u controlled everything from your desk they had injuries like a broken finger/jammed some other *. But now they wana make everything realistic
Any word on when they are putting back the old hitting system?? Haha
This was a shock to me this year. Hitting was just fine before and I never heard someone complaining about it. This year it's just unrealistic. Look at the video, in previous NHL versions, this would have been a successful hit. The timing looked perfect, not to mention the player skating through the referee. Instead of improving the game they changed stuff that works just fine. Offline in previous NHL, the CPU players were a bit dumb and easy to check but that doesn't mean they had to changed the whole hitting mechanic.
It might be more difficult for us to perform hits this year but it's not for the CPU team is you play offline. Just look at the video below. It's from the replay but you can still see how fast the player came to hit my D man. I was surprised and did my best to dodge the hit but I couldn't. Is there a button that I don't know of that can give our players such a speed boost? Also, I'm quite sure this would have been a charging penalty in a real NHL game.

You're just holding shove here. You need to make contact on the release of the shove button.

You'll notice here that the CPU releases the shoulder check button and makes contact on the follow through. That's why hitting is different this year; previously you'd just hold the hit button and then glide into your opponent. Now, you have the responsibility of timing the release in order to ensure the shove makes the most impact.

That doesn't explain the burst of speed and the charging penalty not being called. How often do you see a hit like this in the NHL?

That's right...and it was simple to execute. It should have stayed that way. Nobody asked for a change

You mean nobody ever said the game was a copy and paste and to change things up? I thought you all wanted simulation and not simplicity? I get that hitting is harder now, but it's far from impossible and the 51 hits a team did against my club last night is a good indication of that.
My issue is when you line up a hit, and your player swerves away from the player at the last second. I have been burnt in offline play by the AI a few times, when missing the check at the last second. This usually occurs when lining a hit up from the side. If you in front, you can almost always get the hit in.

That's not what I meant, people say that every year but I never heard people complaining about the hitting mechanic. So why change a winning recipe.
If you want it to be more realistic my suggestion would be to give an option to avoid hits maybe. In a real hockey game, if you are coming down along the board and a player angles you to hit you, you can slow down, push the puck forward for a teammate and turn your body facing the board to avoid most of the hit. So you can make the choice to avoid the hit but you lose the puck. You can also put a knee down so the opponent will hit the glass instead of you.
So instead of adding new dekes every year that most people don't use, you could add an option to avoid hits in a realistic way.
You can avoid hits. We get a lot of complaints that offense is overpowered and can hang on to the puck too easily. Skilled players are also good at recognizing when a hit is coming and can avoid them or take the hit while getting rid of the puck which results in taking the hitter out of the play. You also can face the boards and pin yourself (if using the skill stick controls). It would be good to have more options for avoiding hits of course. I'm not saying there shouldn't be. I just don't think that there's a problem with the change to hitting. I know it's not for everyone, but it also works very well.
