Re: NHL 24 Reveal Trailer

I'm confused about the goalie teathering system. From the trailer, it looks like if you aren't pushing the left stick, your goalie will automatically move to the middle of the crease. Well, what if the puck is being worked along the boards for an extended period of time and I don't want the goalie resetting his positioning? Are we just gonna have to hold the stick in position to stay on that side of the crease?

Honestly, this teathering system sounds awful. Hopefully I'm wrong and it's great, but I have nothing but low expectations when it involves EA.

Exactly. Only tether that should work is when the puck exits the zone then a tether should be applied. Otherwise it's so unnecessary. What happens if buddy is faking a pass, stops up and then shoots right where you were positioned?

I'm honestly not sure what the logic behind the teathering system is. The goalie position is all about angles and making adjustments. If a guy enters the zone in the middle of the ice and cuts towards the boards, I'll start in the middle of my crease and then push the left stick to stay square to the puck. Well, if he stops and stays near the boards, I'm not gonna keep pushing the left stick because that would eventually take me completely out of position. No, I would push the left stick until I've covered the angle and then let go of the stick. That's proper goaltending. Well, now it sounds like I won't be able to stay in position because my goalie will just recenter himself if I'm not pushing the left stick.

Only thing I could possibly think that would make sense would be if they made the goalie controls be like a pulling a rubberband where you have to feather the left stick and hold it in place to keep that position. If that's how the goalie controls are gonna work now, I'm done with the position and probably the franchise entirely. Having to be THAT accurate with an analog thumbstick while playing against super-powered skaters who are faster than lightning and made as accurate as a laser thanks to OP x-factors is BS.

Maybe I'm wrong and the reveal trailer just wasn't able to explain the controls in the 10 seconds they reserved for goalies, or at least make these new controls optional. Otherwise, that's it for me after playing the position since NHL 15.

@SummerOfDekes When I was playing goalie in 23, many times I wanted quickly return back to centered position automatically. I suggested to press LS (L3) and RS (R3) at the same time to move goalie back to centered position quickly. I still miss this function in game.

That's fine if it's a user-initiated action. Like, maybe if you press RB (since it doesn't do anything currently) your goalie would recenter. I just don't want my goalie to move until I decide to move.

We'll see how it works during the playtest, I suppose.

Maybe make a type of DSS for goalies so we can actually aim our pokechecks. The current pokecheck animation for goalies is useless unless the puck is directly in front of you.
