There are things you can do to minimize the constant breakaways or constantly getting outnumbered.
1. You can increase the back staking speed. Don’t know what you have it at now, but the lower the number, the slower the D men will skate backwards. I keep it at 65/100. I am almost certain that a hockey player cant skate backwards as fast as he skates forwards. There has to be some penalty.
2. You can lower the skating speed WITH the puck. There are separate sliders for skating speed with and without the puck. If you are looking at your skating speed WITH the puck at 100/100 then the guy with the puck will skate at exactly the same speed as if he didn’t have it. I dont play hockey, so I cant tell you how much having the puck slows you down, but you can play with the sliders.. I keep it at 75/100.
3. Lower your fatigue recovery to the single digits. I have mine set at 5/100. Doing this will keep the star players from playing 45min a game and play 22 min a game. Your 4th liners will play more thus decreasing the odds of an odd man rush.
4. Raise the fatigue effect slider to 99/100. If a star player has been on the ice for a long shift, they wont be able to skate as fast.. thus reducing the odds of an odd man rush. BUT in all fairness, I have not seen any effect on performance with this slider. Ive seen players like Ovi be on the ice to 2:25 and still skating fast. But I keep it high.
5. Attribute slider at 10/10. This means if you have a 99 rated player they will play like a 99 rated player and the 80 rated player will play like an 80 rated player. If you move the slider to 0/10 that means that ratings are out the window and all players will play at the same rating. I dont know if the lower players move up or the higher players move down or if they meet in the middle.
You cant improve the AI, but you can give your D a chance to catch up.
@SemiUsualwhat I've noticed really changes the frequency of three and two on ones more than anything is strategy adjustment.
NHL 24's AI is top down meaning, it focuses on the quality of result instead of the quality of cpu play.
Basically, the higher the strategy is for the cpu, the worse your AI plays in order to skew the game in the favor of the CPU. My teammates always make horrible decisions with/without the puck when the cpu strategy is higher, rather than the cpu making better quality decisions.
If you want your teammates to play competently, set their strategy sliders higher than the CPU's. Otherwise, you're in for a world of misery on this game.
It's frustrating because it genuinely seems like EA has no idea how to create smart hockey players on this game. Instead, they just make the CPU players dumber. I've seen dmen with 90 defensive awareness stats blatantly leave players wide open in the slot as they leave their assignment to triple team an opponent that's already limited to a backhand shot under double coverage. It's genuinely mind boggling but this is how EA programs its AI I guess.- SuperGoalies2 years agoSeasoned Veteran
