Remapping Elite 2 Is Controller for NHL

Just purchased a new Xbox Elite 2 controller in the hope it lasts longer than a few months. It's always the left stick that gets stick drift and I'm putting it down to constantly clicking it playing NHL.

Is it easy to remap this controller and does anyone have any suggestions that would work well with NHL?  I'm hoping I can change L3 to one of the paddles.

    Hey, @Stubo_NHL24

I've had the same 2 Elite Series 2 controllers for a couple of years with no issues. For NHL 24, I remapped the left stick click to one of the left paddles and right stick click to one of the right paddles. I disabled clicking down on both sticks. I accidentally clicked them too much and it drove me absolutely crazy every time.

I like the sound of that. Is it easy to do?

It's not arriving until Saturday so wasn't really sure what it was capable of doing.

    Thanks 😊

Yep. Just got to your Xbox settings > Devices & connections > Controllers & headsets. You should see your controller listed here with the option to remap the controls. This set up is taking me some getting used to, but it's not too bad so far. Definitely glad to not be doing fake shots and protecting the puck when I don't want to. I just did this about a week ago. After some 15+ years of the skill stick controls, it's taking some time to retrain my hand to use the paddles instead of clicking down, but it's coming along.

Nice thing is you can unmap buttons as well.  I got sick of the stupid reverse check going off when trying to shoot, so...umapped the right thumbstick click down option and now it no longer goes off.  I just quickly switch to a separate profile using a simple push of the profile button on the controller when I need to use that right thumbstick click to say, view player stats in the UI.  Only thing it cant do is map button combos, which would have been super nice.

Just realised I order the core version which doesn't have paddles 😩

£24 for a customisation set that has all the extras.

Thanks for the help guys 👍

  • @Stubo_NHL24I almost made that mistake the other day actually. Microsoft does a * poor job of explaining the differences. People should be able to look at each box in-store (or quickly at the description online) and figure out exactly what’s different.

3 days without NHL and I'm climbing the walls. It's that bad I put the game on and just look at it 😭😂

    Tomorrow can't come quick enough.

the game uses button combos already, so that would really just be reassigning those combo buttons to different options (I'm not suggesting taking the combos and turning them into a single button - though that's precisely what EA did with the total controls, so again, is it really a macro if EA is already doing it?).  So for example, instead f holding LB and pushing down on the right stick, how about hitting LB and X.  Technically you can do that by reassigning the right click to the X button on the elite, but with the current functionality that would change all of the right click functions, and I would like the option to just assign each skill a unique reassignment or combo.

that being said, I did make hip checking on skill stick a LOT easier by mapping the LB and the right click buttons to a couple paddles, so now to hip check I just have to click the two paddles after lining up a check. However, it would be much more ideal for us to be able to map the controller any way we see fit for our preferred gameplay.  Not sure why EA has hard coded the buttons in the manner they did.
