I also just went and got a new controller today to try and see if maybe that was the problem but it is still doing it. It seems to stop if I shut the console off and then after playing 30 minutes or so it will usually act up again. If I get an xbox series s will I be able to use my same account and download the Xbox one version of the game so I don't lose my collection and coins?

Wireless but it has worked fine for years and this game since it came out. Even playing the offline modes like squad battles and HUT rush do it. Is it possible that my xbox one s where it is probably 4-5 years old atleast is starting to overheat and cause this? It seems to get worse if I play longer and the console sounds very strange if I start it with no disc

As a test, can you move close enough to use a wire? Maybe there's a TV within reach of your router? What you're describing sounds like a connection issue and they are far more likely to happen over wireless than wired. Even if it's normally fine, wireless is very easy to interfere with. If you can't do that, I'd suggest going through the connection troubleshooting steps here. HUT Rush and Squad Battles are single player, but they're not offline since HUT requires an online connection. So, they are going to be susceptible to the quality of your connection.
I will try to hook it up wired but whenever I check my connection on the console it is fine. I downloaded a game lastnight afterwards just to see if it would work or disconnect and it did download
