Is there anything plugged into the USB ports? If so, try unplugging them. If that doesn't help, can you try using another controller?

I only have the one controller.. nothing plugged into any ports.. I am able to move, play defense, use menus ect.. only when I receive the puck is when I am unable to move... doesn't make sense.. haven't had this issue at any other point during the year or previous games..
Any other thoughts?

Check to make sure your controller's firmware is up to date. That can be done in your Xbox settings under Devices& connections > Controllers & headsets. Hit the button with 3 dots on it on the left. It'll say at the top if there's an update available or not.
