Input Delay v.24

https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues/Input-Lag-Unresponsiveness/td-p/11949320

In what is becoming an annual tradition since January '22, NHL24 plays with the same exact input delay, player freezing, etc. I don't need to repeat myself with the quality of my hardware, internet, and non-delay on every other game.

During the pre-release period, I would say the connection was mediocre with regards to the delay/lag. But it has noticeably gotten worse since the full release last weekend. As it was last year, I played one night until 4am EST last weekend, and after an entire night of delay, it suddenly resolved to normalcy. If it ever resolved last year, barring the once in a blue moon day, it would occur around this same exact time. To date: still unexplainable. It's been varying degrees of atrocious since that night. This delay occurs in every mode, per usual. One resolves, they all resolve.

The silver lining is I got this game for free. So, at least while I shout into the void this year, I do it with more money in my pocket and a clear conscience in not supporting this dreck.

My recommendation if EA ever asks for video evidence: don't.

I've provided so many clips the last 3 years (probably never watched) and the absolute best you'll get is, "Hmmm. Interesting. Well, we can't replicate it in our perfect Vancouver studio, so that's that." No explanations, no theories, no follow ups -- the customer service kiss of death.

"Hello, Doctor? I have a tumor in my body. Here's my biopsy. How do I get cured?"

"Hmmm. Interesting. Well, I can't replicate it in MY body. Best of luck!"

What would complex server routes/networking/coding in Pennsylvania (or wherever) have to do with a studio in Vancouver? Absolutely nothing. The fat man lag/input delay is incredibly common across multiple EA titles, and it doesn't seem location based considering I have friends across the country who variably deal with it (and some who inexplicably don't). But EA will never admit to it. Throw your video proof into the trash.

I don't see how your example of a doctor diagnosing a tumor is remotely applicable to this.

Again, with the small part of the playerbase, in relation to the overall population playing, we're not aware of any widespread issues with the game or servers that is causing lag. With the near limitless combination of variables for every single connection, it's near impossible to pinpoint what's causing that for some. Why is the extremely high majority of the playerbase able to play without issue? We also can see how frequently disconnects are happening and again, those are low compared to the amount of completed games. I know people are tired of hearing us say it's your equipment/ISP. I absolutely get that's frustrating. We want you all to play without issue. There is only so much we can do though. We can control the our own servers and the game. That's it. We have absolutely no control over your ISP and their equipment, the equipment in your home, the traffic on your local network, the routing your ISP uses, etc. This is why video is so critical so telling people to ignore that request just because it hasn't helped you yet doesn't help us find a resolution to a potential issue.

As far as testing from Vancouver goes, we can see how the servers are performing regardless of their location. When we aren't getting a sudden influx of reports from others in the same region, there doesn't appear to be an issue. While I play from Texas, the rest of my club is located in PA. None of them have had any issues with lag or disconnects. If anyone out of our group should be lagging it would be me since I'm so much farther from the server we normally play on and I still don't have any issues. I'm not saying this proves there are no problems on our end. I'm not going to guarantee that. At this time, we haven't been able to find anything. Unlike when the AT&T issue was happening. With that, it was obvious there was a problem due to the high amount of reports we got about it. It didn't have to do with us, but that was an indicator there's an issue that's not on the player's end.

  • By no means am I saying anything is fixed on my end, but…

And this is strictly for feedback…

but tonight (Monday) it has played like an absolute dream. No clue why, or maybe just better matchmaking, but if your team did something or is doing something to address this issue figured I should say something.

On the other hand, yesterday (Sunday) during champs and xfactor champs, it was atrocious as usual.

literally couldn’t do anything. Saturday was better but not by much

i don’t expect it will stay playing like a dream for me, as I’ve occasionally seen couple week nights play better than rest of week, but crossing fingers maybe something was done to address it.

fyi no real change in ping stats from usual 35-40ms and am on SaskTel fiber in Regina

No changes on our end. You may want to contact your ISP to see if they're aware of any changes.
