A look at nhl 25

I’d like to say that NHL 25 is a great game… but I can’t. After the latest update, the game is completely broken. It’s disappointing to see that gameplay has hit rock bottom. I’m really tired of watching the same game year after year with no real improvements. I’m not sure what the developers of NHL 25 are proud of (I get it, a smaller team and limited budget), but there hasn’t been a single meaningful change in the last three years—none! The graphics are still stuck in 2020, the animations are the same, cutscenes haven’t changed, Be a Pro mode is identical, and the online modes are unchanged (no new modes or challenges). The 3v3 teams even have the same names and stadiums for years now. The core of the game and its mechanics feel outdated. Many elements seem recycled from older NHL games, and I can count on one hand the actual changes they’ve made—it's pitiful.

My friends and I don’t even want to play NHL 25 anymore. This is the last NHL game I’m buying. I’ve played every single NHL game since ‘96, and I’m no rookie—I know how to judge this game. Every year, I’ve put in countless hours, but I’m done. It’s sad to see how low NHL has fallen. This game has destroyed NHL and the community that loved it. I’m no longer willing to pay full price for this terrible update since 2020.

Offline mode is the best of the series. It is the disappearance of the pre-match scenes, especially the exterior view of the buildings, that is missing the most.

Hi there. Thanks for the feedback. Can you give me some examples of what you'd like to see change and what you're disappointed with?

Thanks for the request. What is missing the most is the immersion. A presentation like on sportsnet for example. A view of the city, the arena, the entrance of the skaters on the ice, a focus on a fit player, a misshaped player. Everything that was still a few years ago.

What could be changed? Aside from gameplay itself, there are several ways to make the game more attractive, fun, and realistic. Here are some suggestions, structured by mode.

    For Offline Mode:

    1. Animations and Pre-Match Atmosphere:

Introduce animations for players entering the field, realistic stadiums, glimpses into locker rooms, and fans arriving before the match. This could be similar to what’s done in FIFA/FC.

    2. Be a Pro Mode:

Similar to FIFA/FC, include player interviews and a realistic journey for the Pro player, starting from a minor league and progressing to the IIHF World Championships.

    3. Coach Career Mode:

Again, inspired by FIFA/FC, allow players in a coach role to select and search for new clubs based on their performance. Clubs would offer opportunities depending on achievements. With a little imagination and added realism, offline modes could be immersive and entertaining.

    For Online Mode:

    1. Reduce Excessive Clothing Options:

Too many clothing options feel unnecessary and cluttered.

    2. Rewards for Clothing, Sticks, etc.:

Rather than unlocking everything too quickly, have items like outfits, sticks, and other gear as rewards for leveling up (e.g., reaching level 20 unlocks an X-factor or special skill). This would motivate players to reach higher levels and play more. Currently, it’s too quick and unexciting; players at level P1 already have all skills and X-factors unlocked, which reduces motivation.

    3. Clubs, Divisions, and Drop-ins:

Redesign the entire CHEL experience to make it more engaging. Divisions feel dull and need something to make them more fun. Inspire the design from FIFA/FC, which includes many enjoyable elements.

The overall quality of the game itself took a massive step backwards with the last two patches/updates.   Defensemen in front of the net have free reign on forwards,  default poke aim seems to be directly into the skates (which admittedly can be corrected if you're skilled and quick enough but its still annoying), goalies are incredibly unbalanced in Chel.   Went from having tight 3-1 or 3-2 games to it being a blowout one way or another almost every game, suspicious amount of goals going in that have no business going in...

Skating is fluid, and smooth...mostly. My only gripe is that your player stops and plants instead of pivoting regardless of agility rating.

Contact box needs to be shrunk a little...too much phantom contact resulting in knockdowns

Winded get ups need to be sped by by at least 75%...it shouldn't take 1.5 in game minutes to get up from a check

None of this changed with the recent updates. Poke check is working the same, shoves are the same. The changes to goalies aren't suddenly causing blowouts. Those are more a result of bad defense.

Can you get me video of these?

I agree get ups take too long in general. I hope this changes in the future.

Played the game over 30 years and i think offline franschise mode this year is very enjoying to play. You get rewarded if you are trying to play real hockey play tight in your own defence zone do not let the other team build up momentum/pressure to much and you get a realistic hockey experience with a nice balance.I should say i also miss the presentation side of the game would have a lot better intros before the game see arena wiews and tunnel runouts goalie presentation etc

I agree The only issue I have with it is I'm 40 games in and the computer is yet to take a penalty That's pretty stupid no matter what I do with the sliders they don't take a penalty so unrealistic but I almost don't want to continue playing it but my pie will just to see if I can ever see them take a penalty lol but that's ridiculous
