Awkward interceptions

https://www.xbox.com/play/media/GDfUxVuNER

Game of club 6s. I'm defending an odd-man rush. I go into a glide to help with intercepting the puck as the pass is made. My player is able to block the pass, but bobbles the puck instead of handling the puck cleanly.

In real time, I thought I had grabbed the puck cleanly and so I attempted to turn with the puck and get it to my teammates at center ice. In actuality, I didn't have control of the puck and my player instead bats the puck into my own net.

I genuinely just don't understand this outcome. Initially, I thought maybe one of the nearest opposing players had poked at the puck and our sticks collided and caused the puck to deflect. But, no, my player literally just shoots the puck into his own net. Nobody else made any contact with the puck.

I slowed down the clip to really analyze it, and what I noticed was that my player was able to gain control of the puck on his forehand, but as he was corraling the puck, the puck stops moving with my stick blade and goes straight into the net.

I'm really not sure exactly what to make of this clip, but it's another play in a long line of plays where defense and goalies get screwed over inexplicably. I mean, my build has 97 defensive awareness with silver quick pick. I'm in good position. I'm gliding so as to increase my chance of intercepting the puck. Why can't I just grab that puck? Why does my player shoot it in to his own net?

  • By the same token, if the same puck went to an opposing foward, it would have been an easy reception; also a balancing issue.

I don't think he's actually shooting it into his own net. It looks like it was bobbled and deflected into their own net. I'd be very frustrated with this as well. Unfortunately, being a video game, there are going to be unintended actions. Especially with a game that is trying to replicated the incredibly complex and dynamic physics of hockey. We have seen huge improvements on this over the years. Hopefully, that will continue to happen.

As always, the feedback is appreciated.

In all fairness, this isn't exactly a common occurrence. But, I thought it was something that would be worth looking into.

    Appreciate the response.
