You don't want them to put Versus on servers, P2P feels way better even at higher pings.
Are servers required for crossplay? Is it possible to do crossplay via P2P?
Crossplay can technically use P2P, and a few games have done it, but almost all major games use dedicated servers for reliability and simplicity.
