Does EASHL have skill based matchmaking?

Last night I was playing 3v3s EASHL with a 4 squad of silver players and every game we got decimated by diamond players. Even had one game against Elite ranked players. Is this a bug or something? Do we have to just avoid playing with a goalie to not get match against top tier players?
