Hey there. I definitely get this. It's understandable you'd want to play a team of similar ranked players. Something to keep in mind is that we're several months in and much of the community has been regularly playing since launch. This means there's going to be a larger pool of higher ranked players. Restricting matchmaking results to only others in or right around your division is going to lead to longer wait times. Hopefully, we'll see NHL 25 added to EA Play. That should bring some new players into the mix to at least raise your chances of matching with similar players.
This has absolutely nothing to do with the matchmaking. We’ve played this game for over a decade and I understand the concept of players ranking up but not everyone is good enough to win 80% of games to be diamond or fire. We’re in the lowest division and matching the highest players 90% of the time.

Mismatched clubs facing each other is completely matchmaking. The ranks of the other players is not part of it. If it were, there would be less lopsided matchups at the expense of longer waits. You're not the first to request this. We're aware of it and it's possible this could change in the future.
