Feedback from long time NHLer
Good morning, everyone!
Let me start by saying I'm such a newb to this community I didn't even know it existed until I watched the Madden Doc on Prime yesterday. Hell, I don't even know how to change my username. And to that point, I didn't even know that a forum like this existed until the doc talked about feedback being submitted and then I googled, and well, here I am.
I'm 41 and have been playing NHL since the beginning. I'm sure I'm not the first one who started on Sega as a kid with 94 and has bought basically every version since on various systems. I've been to over 750 NHL games in person and travel to road games annually. Hockey is my love. And playing the game allows me to connect better with the team I follow and well, just relax.
25 is great. Of course there are things I don't like that are probably skill based, etc. And I might be breaking some unwritten rule about "did you search before you posted" because I didn't search, but I wanted to provide my feedback now that I know that producers of the game are in fact reading these. Or at least EA employees assigned to NHL. There are two major issues in this game.
- Faceoffs
Faceoffs are the worst part of this game. It's one thing to say "I suck at faceoffs (which is not true. I generally win 80% online)" but they are just flat out incorrectly processed in the game.
Here are the NHL rules on stick to the ice:
Offensive zones: The defending team's faceoff player puts their stick down first
Neutral zones: The opposing team's faceoff player puts their stick down first
Center ice: The visiting team's player puts their stick down first
- This does not happen in the game whatsoever.
- It appears to be advantage in the game to have your stick down first. That is absolutely backwards to hockey (maybe this is a skill issue for me? I get my stick down ASAP and seem to win, like I said, 80% of the draws).
- False starting is not addressed whatsoever in the game. In fact, in real hockey this can lead to a penalty.
- You cannot choose which of your players on the ice takes a draw.
- Penalty Shot Calls
These are called waaaaaaaaaaaay too often. Here are the rules for a penalty shot:
The player on a breakaway must be beyond his own blue line;
The infraction must have been committed from behind;
The fouled player must have been in control of the puck, with a clear chance to score; and
There must have been no opposing players between the puck-carrier and the opposing goal.
Often, the break away occurs WELL within the blue line. This is the biggest issue. I see this all the time.
Thank you for taking the time to read and I hope these are addressed in 26!
