What do I have to do to intercept passes this year? In previous years intercepting passes worked very well. intercepting passes needs to be fixed. I have ninety-two defensive awareness and this happens to me. I am in perfect position between the puck carrier and receiver of the puck, but my stick doesn't go down onto the ice to intercept the puck. I was facing the puck carrier as well

No, you can't. It's slowing you down anyway. Not that much as poke check, but you can't maintain the same speed. Did you realize how many times you have to skate as D in the same direction as your oponent entering your zone? This is not how D should be played in real hockey. Sorry.

The only thing that 'slowed' me down was transitioning from backskating to forward which is realistic.

Sometimes, defending a puck carrier means matching their direction. To claim "that is not how D should be played" is wrong. Defense and the way it's played changes contextually given the scenario. There absolutely are times as a defender that you're going to match the direction of the puck carrier in order to execute an affective action.

For help with increased interceptions I have found that puck control also plays a part, make sure to increase this as well as having a high defensive awareness attribute.

thank you for your words, I fully understand what you are saying, I have adapted over the years, I would say, I'm playing decent D, but in my opinion, this game is not balanced properly. I rarely intercept passes while holding LT this year. in past years, holding LT would let you intercept the puck so much more.
do I need to use quick pick. do I need to increase my defensive awareness higher than 92? EA_Aljo

You don't have to shadow and mirror the opposing skaters all the time. You can kinda stay in their vicinity, like a zone defense, watch the puck carrier and wait for him to setup up for the pass, then when you feel the pass is coming, you skate into the passing lane and glide. I get way more disruptions and interceptions that way.
I understand that defense in this game is lacking in some ways, and it's definitely difficult to play. But, you can absolutely overcome some of the shortcomings of the game by changing how you approach defense.

You're in close proximity to the puck and it's moving too fast for your player to react.

Community ManagerQuick Pick would help. Puck Control is more for receiving passes than intercepting them. Defensive Awareness is the main stat you want raised. Personally, I run with DA of 94 and am using Quick Pick. I'm intercepting passes when in good positioning and with good time to react. Normally, I stick close to the player I'm covering so I have more time to react. Those in-close, cross-crease passes are of course the ones that often get through. I believe that's what happened in your video. Also, with the clip slowed down it looks like they should have had it. In real time, that's going to be a faster pass and harder to react to though.
Community ManagerYes. This is also what I do. You can tell when someone is setting up for a one T or just trying to get open for a pass. Anticipating that and getting in the lane will often get you an interception. Gliding is also key.
