No more skill based matchmaking in Online Versus?

I'm not sure why this is but the matchmaking in Online Versus appears to be completely random now. I'm ranked as a top 50 player and even if I match an opponent within a few seconds they could be a very low ranked player. In previous years it was always the case that when you matched quickly with an opponent that you would have a similar competitive rating. As a whole it's a little bit frustrating because I rarely have any competitive games and I'm sure it's not fun for newer and less experienced players either. 

I know there was an issue early on with people being unable to find matches so maybe this was just a short term solution to the problem but it really needs to be addressed quickly as it's making the game extremely boring.

    I can help you. It's because there are significantly less people playing this game now because of managements decisions. There are less people and teams to match you with. Hope this helps.

      Right on the nose, brother. For 3's, until they fix the stamina, matching,  etc ...  Back to playing 24.

      This issue has absolutely nothing to do with the player population, at least when it comes to online versus. I am getting matches, the problem is that I am immediately matching with players who are nowhere near me in CR which is resulting in largely uncompetitive games. There are plenty of high level players to be matched with, I'm just not facing them for whatever reason (the matchmaking is probably completely random).

        I'm also a top 50ish player and I've been playing a lot of ~500CR players as well. Keep in mind though, a lot of players are from Europe or across the country so the game is probably prioritizing connection more so than rank. It's a tough balance but I'd rather a smooth connection game versus a worse player than a super laggy game versus a top 50 player lol.

    I have the other problem. I am a low rated player. My club can't get out of Div 10 (Div 1 team last year, but still not great). We are consistently getting matched up against teams that are 1000's of CR points better than us. It's really frustrating being on the other side. No chance for us to improve when we're constantly getting crushed by superior teams. There must be other bad teams out there, but we never get matched up against them.

    We mostly play CHEL 3v3.
