I used 94 controls until this year. Although I've learned hybrid I think 94 controls were easier and would go back to them if they were introduced. I'm getting to old now to learn new stuff, I just play the game for enjoyment. Not bothered about the meta or spamming michigans.
A couple come to mind, some dukes were easier, between the legs shots come to mind. Hustling was easier. Line changes were easier. Defence quite often **bleep** off for a line change when you're defending or under pressure using hybrid. This didn't happen using 94.
Having been brought up using 94 controls, I'm sure us older generation would welcome a change back to them as would people with disabilities and limited use of fingers/thumbs etc would.
As there's no old gen console to worry about this year it could be an easy fix.
I haven't used the 94 controls since they were the only option. I don't recall which button hustle was. I know for some, clicking down on the left stick can be a challenge. Especially if there are mobility issues. Have you considered remapping that function to a different button?
The Total Control layout has the between the legs deke on one button. However, the passing and shooting controls are still using the right trigger and right stick. Which, I assume you're not comfortable with.
Are you saying defense makes line changes automatically differently on Hybrid than on NHL 94 controls or do you mean you liked the controls for making manual line changes better? When players choose to make line changes is the same regardless of the controller layout you're using.
Not all of us older generation feel the same though. I absolutely love the skill stick and made the change almost 20 years ago, but I've also had plenty of time for it all to become muscle memory so it's second nature at this point. I do get what you're saying about people with disabilities though. That's absolutely unfortunate. I know there are some controllers out there specifically designed for those with mobility issues so hopefully, that is an option as well.

I typically adjust pretty quickly to control changes. Last year's was my least favourite of any set of controls ever, mainly the hitting mechanics. You had mentioned this has improved for this year, so hopefully that will make it more enjoyable. As I have mentioned before, my son is the main reason for liking the option of older controls, but I already said my piece on that so revistiing it would be pointless. Generally, a couple hours of playing and I have any control changes figured out, been gaming long enough to adjust.

I'm hopeful people will also find the hitting is improved. As I mentioned, it's not back to pre-24, but it is smoother. It feels more controllable and loose. I've been enjoying hitting a lot more than I did in 24.
Yes. I read about your son. I truly wish we had a control layout that was better suited for him and others that struggle with the available controls. I'll make sure to relay the feedback. Thank you.- admiral7457 months agoSeasoned Veteran
Always appreciated. I look forward to playing around with the hitting. Tomorrow will likely be more about tweaking overalls so that they are to what I feel is more accurate, though I am sure others would disagree with my overalls, lol.
