Curious as to why it takes so long? A game like MLB The Show and I believe even NBA 2K has live Rosters where the previous night's lineups are used to automatically keep rosters up to date. 

I understand NHLPA licensing requires a player to play a game in the NHL before their likeness can be used in a game, but after that - what licensing limitations impede the release of a roster where players simply change teams?
